Adobe Captivate - Object Actions, Apply Effect is not working in HTML?

Community Beginner ,

Hi

I am working on a project where I have a drag and drop interaction using basket balls. You have to drag the correct balls to the correct baskets. I am having a problem while creating an advanced action on the drop target to make the balls drop through the basket. I have applied my own custom XML effect of the balls bouncing and they play perfectly well in Captivate's preview, however when I view this in HTML or Publish it out as HTML the effects stop working and do not play. Is there any way around this? Or is there another way I can create the balls to go through the basket?

I would also like to mention that I took off my custom effect and tried a normal animation of captivates and this also did not work in advanced actions.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Did you create the XML definition from After Effects?

Hi, thanks for replying so fast!

I made the motion in Captivate and saved it out, and exported it back in as a custom effect. This effect works perfectly fine on my other slides as well in html with no problems.

Can you explain why you are referring to the application 'After Effects' in the title of this thread? That is confusing. If there is no link with After Effects (which allows also to create animations), please let me edit that title.

Do I understand well that the problem is that the custom effect appliced by advanced action does work normally, but not when used in an Object action for a D&D-slide? Which type of effect are you talking about?

Ah sorry I meant Adobe Captivate!! I have been working with both this morning... please go ahead and edit the title.

I don't think it is the custom effect anymore..as I have applied it to my other slide and it works perfectly.

Adding the custom effect, or any other effect like fly out bottom through advanced action - apply effect - works fine in Captivates preview but not in html.

I have several published HTML5 movies with plenty of motion effects. Most of them are custom. Have a look at these two movies:

Something else must go awry in your case.

Not sure why its not working...We have never used the apply effect option before in advanced actions so I am also at a loss to why that is not working.

If it helps this is where Apply Effect is having an issue:

If you are publishing out to HTML5, you need to play the content from within a web server environment for it to work properly.  This can be either a localhost web server running on your computer or else you will need to upload to a web server or LMS to test.

Thanks, I will send a version to our local host to see if she can get it to work properly 🙂

What was the work flow to have the custom effect available in the Advanced Actions dialog box?

Clicking on the object I wanted to add the effect to I drew a  motion path. I then hit the save button in the effects panel - animation trigger. It saves the motion out the to my desktop and I can import it as a custom effect. The other effects I use though like "drop and bounce" one that is already in captivate do not work in the apply effects advanced actions either.

Update: Just had a message from our outside source and she has put it on the Local Server and in our player and it still is not working.
