New Here ,
Dec 08, 2015 Dec 08, 2015

I am trying to create an advanced action on a knowledge check slide that will jump to a previous slide and show a button on that slide that will return the user to the knowledge check after they review the content.  I have created and hidden a button on the slide that has the content to be reviewed but am not able to get the knowledge check slide to jump to it if the user answers the questions incorrectly.  Please help.A

You are talking about the new Knowledge slides? I should explore their limitations, know very well the behavior of the normal quiz slides, but not yet those new slides. Mostly I created custom knowledge slides for my courses.

How did you set it up: did you add a shape button to the Knowledge slide or did you use the actions of the Question slide itself to jump to the content slide? I don't know if the Return to Quiz is functional for those knowledge slides. I'm very sorry, it has been so busy here, I will not be much of a help.

I have a slide (slide 4) that has content on it.  I placed a button on that slide and set it to go to the slide last visited when it is clicked.  Then I hid the button so it doesn't show when the user views the presentation the first time.

Then I created a Knowledge Check slide (slide 7) and set it to go to the next slide on success.  I have allowed 1 attempt and, on last attempt have set it to execute advanced actions.  The trouble I am having is writing the advanced action so I can get it to jump back to slide 4 and unhide my button.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Label that button, I will use the name Btn_Return. And I'll point to the content slide using the name Content

The advanced action will be pretty simple:

  • Jump to slide Content
  • Show Btn_Return

Try it out.

How do I set the knowledge slide to jump to the content slide only if the answer is incorrect?

With Last Attempt action as you explained. That action will be executed only for incorrect answer. For a correct answer the Success action, which you set to 'Go to Next Slide' is done. That will be the same as on normal Question slides:

Please disregard that last question...not one of my smarter ones!  I did as you said but the content slide is also set to continue playing so it is not displaying the button and pausing - if the incorrect answer is selected on the knowledge slide I am directed to the content slide and it plays through until I return to the knowledge check slide.

I don't understand your last answer. If you have that button on the content slide, it should have a pausing point, which you can time. It is perfectly possible to make a hidden object visible on another slide, which is what I was doing with that advanced action. Can you post a screenshot of the content slide, timeline included and with that hidden button selected?

I think these are the screens you need - in screen2 you can see I removed the pause.  I don't want the slide to pause the first time through, just when it is returned to for review after the knowledge check is answered incorrectly.  I did try putting it back as part of my advanced action but it didn't seem to work.

You told first that this button was hidden? But it is not hidden at all. Since you don't want a pause for the first view, why don't you hide that button (click on the eye icon top left of the Properties panel) by default, and use the action I gave you to show it when returning. And keep the pausing point, because you need that button to return to the Quiz slide.

I tried hiding the button with the eye icon but it still shows.  I ended up using an advanced action to hide the button on entrance to the slide...I'm guessing this is probably why it won't show again when I return to that slide.  Not sure where to go from here...

There are two eye icons:

  1. The one in the Properties panel, top left will hide the object In Output, when published. That is the one you needed.
  2. The one in the Timeline panel, which will hide the object only on the stage for editing reasons. If you publish the object still will be visible.

You can also Hide On enter, no problem. But in this case you want to hide it when entering the first time, but showing when coming back. Is this a conditional action that takes into account both situations, and if yes, can you show the action please? It looks like you are lacking some basic understanding about visibility of objects.

Thank you!  There are a lot of things I don't know about Captivate - I have been learning on my own.  If you have any recommendations for classes or books I would very much appreciate your input
