After published, video plays without sound in lms

Community Beginner ,

I am not sure what the issue is but once published the video plays without sound in my company's lms. I have looked at the settings already and I made sure audio was checked and all of that so I am not sure what the issue is. Using Captivate 9 and haven't had issues with other courses published in the exact same manner. Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Assuming that the client computers all have speakers or headphones, and assuming the LMS doesn't do something with audio files (I doubt it), I would look at how audio was added to your project. Audio can be added to an Adobe Captivate eLearning course in several different ways. What method(s) did you add audio to your project?

Hello Paul,

I simply recorded within Captivate to individual slides therefore I did no audio importing. I have used this method over and over again and I seem to only be having trouble with two particular courses.

Did you try to check if there are any differences between the courses that work and those that do not. Try to do that using the same device, the same browser and version, on same connection speed. Check the publishing options as well. Do the slide audio clips have a small gap before and after on each slide: do not start them from the beginning but 0.2 secs later and same at the end.

Yes compared and all the same. Also when I preview within CP sound plays just fine. I have never started the sound 0.2 secs after or before and haven’t had any issues. Could it be the LMS? I have no idea..

Audio has to be loaded on each slide, if there are bandwidth issues this could lead to problems. That is why I posted the recommendation about the gaps. Is the file size comparable as well?

One project file is much larger than the other but even the smaller size project is not playing sound.

Have you previewed it in SCORM Cloud? If it plays there there might be an odd issue with the LMS.

SCORM Cloud is available to all Adobe Captivate 9 users through the Preview drop down icon from your toolbar. This allows you to preview your course in an LMS other than your company's own. This might rule out if this is your LMS or your copy of Captivate causing the problem.

Click the preview drop down icon

Select Preview in SCORM Cloud to see if the project plays as expected with audio.

Thank you very much for sharing that information! I will definitely use it from now on. Unfortunately, however, the video still played with no sound. =/ So I guess I can rule out that it is not an issue with our LMS..but still no idea why it is not working..

Playing in SCORM (Shareable Content Object Reference Model - a generally accepted protocol for exchange between files and LMS). Cloud has only sense if you want to test the file being set up as a SCO. Is it set up to report to a LMS? Since you had other courses set up in the same manner, and they play in the LMS with audio, I am a bit sceptical that the test in SCORM Cloud can help, but you'll get a log report which could be interesting if you are familiar with SCORM.

I suggested this because the project is being used in an LMS, so I am (perhaps incorrectly) assuming that SCORM is being used to report to the LMS.  If so, testing in SCORM Cloud would help rule out the LMS if the audio does not play there. Just an idea; you can also get 100Mb of storage free, so handy for testing.

Thank you I tested it out with the scorm cloud preview and unfortunately still no sound so I guess it’s not our lms but still no idea what it is..any other thoughts?

Have you tried creating a new project and importing the audio? Projects can get corrupted, and recently I have seen really odd behaviour when creating responsive projects with Knowledge Check questions.

Are you also on the latest version (9.0.2.437)? If not upgrade.

Finally, why not open a chat with Adobe support if you are on the subscription? Probably the quickest thing to do.

Hi thanks for the tip I tried re-creating it completely and it worked on my colleauges pc but not on mine! I am at a loss as to why it is behaving so bizarrely at this point. And calling or reaching out to adobe support is annoying bc there are language barriers with the support reps and it takes 100 hours to get something resolved. (sorry just venting here)
