Apply both Motion and Rotation Effects to Same Object

Hi,

I'm using Captivate 9. I have an object (car) that is moving on a road with a curve. I want to use the CustomCurves motion effect so as the car is moving around the curve, it is also rotating (so it mimics the movement of a car in real life, as close as possible). I can only use the timeline for the effects, no advanced actions.

It appears I can only assign one effect to the car at a time. The only workaround I thought of is on the curve, have one iteration of the car with the CustomCurves effect, copy and paste it so it is slightly ahead of the previous car and angle it up a bit as if it is turning, and keep repeating this process until it appears that car is turning somewhat smoothly.

Are there other workarounds for what I'm trying to do?

You should be able to add more than one effect to the item at the time.  In the below screenshot, the picture of the dog has a custom curve, and two rotation effects added to it.   Look in the Effects area of the Timing panel for the 'Applied Effects List' - there is a plus sign next to it where you can add additional effects.  You can then mess with the timings of each one in the timeline.

I think Rotation just rotates the object however many degrees.  You might want to try 'Rotate To' that seem

Which output do you want? In Captivate 9 combination of effects leads to different results for SWF and HTML5 output, I have logged several bugs about that. Moreover the Play slide is not totally WYSYWIG, you really need to publish to see the final output, and test on different browsers.

Combination of effects has always been possible on one object and has become lot easier with the new Effect timelines. Here is a very old article that shows combination of effects in the first release where they appeared for Captivate:

Editing Motion Paths and Reusing Customized Effects - Captivate blog

You mention that you don't want to use custom effects, but in many instances it is the only way to get the result you want. However, the work flow to apply a custom effect using advanced actions is still as cumbersome as it was 7 years ago. Time the different effects on the Timeline. It will sometimes work. Having several Rotate to effects in sequence is not working (just one example). It is not possible to add an angle higher than 360° neither.
