I have a Captivate module that I just want to use on the iPhone or Android. Can I just develop it as a normal project and have the capability of gestures? I am using Captivate 8 and now testing 9.
Hi Sara,
Out of supported gestures in Captivate only Pinch and zoom will not work on scalable Blank projects. Since they contradict scaling. gestures like swipe to navigate, long tap to play/pause do work on scalable projects.

No, you need to create a responsive project in order to have gestures.

Are you sure about that Lieve?
In both Captivate 8 and 9 you can open the Mobile Palette from the Windows menu on normal projects, not just Responsive projects. The option for Gesture Configuration is on by default.
Captivate 9 now has an extra checkbox on the Properties tab in both normal and responsive projects to Allow Gesture Navigation.

I haven't personally used gesture navigation so far on any projects, but this would seem to indicate they can be used on both normal and responsive.
Do you find they don't work on any project other than Responsive?

Maybe it changed but could not have it working with normal projects, should
have to check again.

Gesture navigation works in Captivate 8 (click Window > Mobile Palette and check the box next to Gesture Configuration), but it appears to be broken in Captivate 9, even though there's a new box that says "Allow Gesture Navigation." Doesn't work.
I'm talking about non-responsive projects, of course.

Hi BronwenHeuer ,
Gestures should work for both Normal and Responsive Projects in both Captivate 8 and Captivate 9. And gesture navigation on Question slides are restricted if skip and or back buttons are disabled.
With captivate 9 as Rod said you can disable gesture navigation on a particular slide. Please try and let us know if gesture do not work.
Thanks

Thank you Devraj.
I am unable to get gestures to work in a normal (non-responsive) HTML5 scalable Captivate 9 project.
I have confirmed:
- Individual slides "Allow Gesture Naviation" is checked
- When publishing "Mobile Gestures" says "Yes"
I would be happy to share the project with you.
Kind Regards,

Hi Devraj, Sara, Rod, Andrew & Lieve,
I've struggled to get pinch zoom to work in non-responsive html Cp8 and 9 projects and the pinch zoom gesture is critical for a number of projects I'm on. Am I right in saying that only responsive design allows pinch when gestures are enabled? I'm going to test this today and get back to this group.

I didn't test it, but from Devraj's answer I detect that it will not work for 'scalable' HTML projects. Did you check the option 'Scalable HTML content' when publishing?

In previous tests, scalable HTML content was checked. So yes, it was checked. Are you suggesting that if I uncheck that box when I publish a non-responsive project that pinch zoom will work?

Test it, have no time myself today.

Finally got pinch zoom to work with Cp8 and Cp9. Whether it's a responsive project or not, all you need to do is check Allow Gesture Naviation, ensure Mobile Gestures says Yes when publishing, and like Devraj recommended, uncheck Scalable HTML content on publishing window. This results in pinch zoom to around 400% and then allows users to finger swipe around stage.

Devraj,
I would like to see the pinching and zooming working with scaleable projects.
At this time we're working on a number of projects aimed at tablets and desktops (no phones at this time). We're creating non-responsive projects that are 1024 x 619.
There are somethings (diagrams, sketches, illustrations, animations) that users may want to look at more closely. It would be helpful for users to be able to zoom in on something and then be able to zoom back out using gestures.
Is this something we can request for upcoming revisions?
Kind Regards,
Sara

That is contradictory: scaleable project means that the project is scaled automatically when you change the browser...

We want the project to be scaled to fit the device and then allow the user to temporarily zoom in/out.

Sara,
Just following up to see if you had success.

Sara,
When publishing for html for tablets, try unchecking scalable html content at the publish screen. This should result in pinch zoom working fine on tablet. Give it a test. I had success when doing so but I also found that when users pinch to zoom, when user is swiping around the zoomed in stage, they can reach the edge of the stage and swipe to see white space off stage (which I'm trying to figure out). Ideally users shouldn't be able to go beyond edge of stage. - Ryan
