audio toggling with several advanced actions on several slides (closed captioning)

I´ve worked the whole day with variables and conditional actions and found out so far how to toggle audio ON/OFF. But I really need a "toggle OFF/ON" - that´s a bit different 😉

To be more specific here´s what I need:

  • In my course I have many slides and most of them with audio attached to (let´s name them "audio slides" for now)
  • Each slide has an audio button, on the audio slides it´s clickable for the user, on mute slides this button is inactive.
  • With this audio button the user shall always be able to choose wether to hear the audio or open a popup window to read the text - similar to the closed caption function.
  • BUT in contrast to the standard closed captions the popup also shows a small button which leads to the next slide.
  • If the user decides to listen to the audio, the movie will automatically continue to the next slide.

By now I can open and close popups, hide the audio button which opens the popup, show an audio "on" button which hides the popup. The opening of the popup also stops the slide audio using the system variable cpCmndMute set to 1.

The audio "on" button closes the popup but does not play the audio again from the beginning! The audio seems to continue and with setting the variable cpCmndMute back to 0 the audio plays anywhere or ven not at all because it has come to its end!

How can I pause or stop the audio instead of muting it? And how can I make it play from the beginning? Both times combined with show/hide popups and other objects.

There is a big difference between slide audio and object audio, between object audio and the Play Audio command. It is still not clear to me what you use at all.

Dear Lilybiri,

I´ve checked and read this blog of yours before but had some trouble with it, because it´s combined with a quiz. On the other hand I had the impression that your blog focuses on how to play an audio only once (the first time a slide is visited).

For slide or object audio: I use only slide audios. Since now I had no idea that maybe object audios are better??

*edit:

Another situation occured and that may cause some interference with this topic. I have passed on the playbar and used customized buttons instead. Most of these buttons have a single action attched to, to navigate throughout all slides. That works so far so good, but the audios keep playing when skipping to another slide and so there will be multiple audios! I think I need a way to stop each audio when jumping to another slide, and starting audio when a slide is entered.
