Blank web browser opening when I preview or publish

Hi,

Thanks for any help on this. Whenever I click preview or publish, nothing happens but a blank web browser window pops open.

I thought this might solve my problem: http://www.infosemantics.com.au/adobe-captivate-troubleshooting/how-to-set-up-flash-global-security

However, when I went to add locations, the "Open" button was greyed out.

Anyone have any other troubleshooting tips?

What kind of project are you creating? Is it HTML5 or Responsive HTML5?

If it's HTML5 and not published out as HTM/SWF, then Flash Global Security is not going to be the reason for this issue.

Thanks so much for looking into this. It's responsive.

If it is responsive, nothing related to Flash is used, so the Flash Securtiy cannot be the cause.

You have to upload the pulished folder to a webserver or to a LMS. It is often the only way to test the project.

Did you use Fluid Boxes or Breakpoint views?

Hi, thanks. I'm brand new to Captivate and just trying to create one course, so I don't have an LMS. What's the best way to learn how to use the webserver?

Also, I used fluid boxes. Hoping people will be able to see the course on their tablets and phones.

I appreciate the help, it's all so overwhelming but I'm trying to hang in there.

Not a good idea to start as a newbie with a responsive project, it is like running the marathon without having done any training. Sorry for that comment. Captivate is a wonderful authoring tool but you have to spend learning time.

It is not always necessary to create a responsive project to enable it to be viewed on tablets and phones. Here is a recent article I wrote:

Fluid Boxes Or Breakpoint Views? - Captivate blog

Try to use the option 'Preview in SCORM Cloud' if you have set up reporting. You can find it under the Publish button. You can install a webserver on your system for testing (XAMPP, WAMP.....-. Just google.

As for the big challenges for newbies, without the extra difficulty of Fluid Boxes (for which I wrote also several articles), have a look at:

Hi there, I was having the same issue the other day and all you need to do is extract all files from the zip file that is created when you publish. Find the location where you published to and then right click and extract all files. The new files opened should work. I am using Captivate 2017 and it worked for me. Hope this helps.

Sorry, can you tell which output you created? If it is a SCO it needs to be a zipped file and has to be uploaded to a LMS. If it is not a SCO, but a simple published HTML5, you don't have a zipped folder at all, unless you did ask for it in the Publish dialog box. I just want to clarify that unzipping a SCO is not a good idea, and a normal published output is a folder that is NOT zipped. This is the default setting for a non-SCO responsive project. You see that it is not zipped by default.

I am not saying it's the right thing to do but answers the question of why it was a blank screen.
