Button State Distortion

Contributor ,

I am about to pull my hair out (what little of it I have left). I had seen this issue in Cap 9 and there was, I believe, a work around.

Well, it seems to have come back in 2017 and I cannot, for the life on me remember what the issue was or, more importantly the fix.

Using the Object Style Manager, I created a button style for use in a program and defined it as the default style.

As shown, the only differences in the states are the coloring of the fill and text.

However, when I attempt to use this button, the over and down states are DISTORTED when rolled over and/or clicked.

A quick look into the State View reveals the distortion

I have tried resetting the states in the State view, but the states are locked. brokenLocked.png

Any ideas on what the fix to this issue are?

You used a transparent button clone, correct? Personally I mostly use shape button, but I understand why you want another type because you want to have it set as default which is not possible with shape buttons (gave up asking for that feature).

I tried to reproduce the problem but didn't succeed. The buttons in rollover and down state keep the same size and form as in the normal state. I used rounded corners, different colors and another font  (not Verdana) and everything worked as expected.

Can you check in  Preferences, Default Settings if the option 'Autosize buttons' is activated? At this moment that is the only possibility for your problem which pops up in my mind. It is always difficult when I cannot reproduce the error.

Good morning, Lilybiri:

So, I reset the Global Preferences to deselect the Autosize Button, opened the project in question and reset the Project Preferences as well. Closed and saved project and Captivate. Reopened both and inserted a text button and a transparent button. Resized and moved both.  Checked the State View and found

Ran the project. It worked. Have no idea why nor did I see any documentation of this step, but that could be me.

BTW, I completely agree and would normally NEVER use the Button interaction in any project. Smart Shapes used as buttons offer so much more flexibility.

Thank you so much for your help.
