Hello All,
I am trying to publish a course (.cptx) to an LMS for the first time, but I can't even get it to publish to my computer in both swf and html5. Only .swf, is possible. Html5 alone doesn't work either. It says Publishing Failed after loading for a short bit.
I followed these instructions to the letter several times, (Uploading an Adobe Captivate project to a Learning Management System) and hunted for answers, so please throw a bone to a newbie because I'm sure it's something simple that I'm missing.
Much appreciated,
Chris

Does your project have an components that are not compatible with HTML5? Have you checked for this incompatibility using the HTML5 checker tool that comes with Captivate?

Hello and thanks Rod. I found your great site Infosemantics Pty Ltd | as well. I'm going through it today. What a tremendous resource. Thanks for that.
Unfortunately, nothing in the project comes up in the Tracker, and I went through the file types in my library, as I saw on your site, but nothing appears to be non-compliant. I can't preview the project in SCORM Cloud, either. It loads between 21 and 27% of slides then says 'Publishing Failed'.
I'll keep trying, and thanks.

Ahhh, I just found the problem, I think. I built the original course structure in Power Point, imported it to Captivate as a responsive project, and then added media, quizzes, etc. Even though HTML Tracker doesn't show anything, nor the library, it seems from your site that I'd have to rebuild all the slides in Captivate. Does that seem like an issue that would cause a publishing fail for html5, or swf/html5?

It could be due to some PPT object that is conflicting with the publishing process. However, most PPT slides will just be converted to PNG graphics and used as backgrounds for the Captivate slides when you publish out to HTML5, so in theory just using PPT alone shouldn't cause the issue.
One thing you can do is hide groups of slides (e.g. 5 or 10 at a time) and then republish your project to see if you can successfully publish with some section of your project hidden. (Hiding slides means the slides and all objects on them are not used in the publishing process. So if the gremlin is on one of those slides your publish should then succeed.)

That is a great troubleshooting method, thanks! I will give it a try when I get home. Much appreciated.

Hello Rod,
Thanks for the great advice. Strangely enough, the slides causing the problem were the Multiple Choice slides which I created in Captivate after bringing the PowerPoint structure in. I did copy and paste text direct from a Word document, and I applied a common button design to all slides by 'applying to all types' with the original being from a non-quiz slide. I've been looking and thinking and I still can't figure out why any of this would have prevented the publishing as I don't think any fit the criteria that I understand. Any pro insights would be appreciated.

If I had to put money on it I would say that copying and pasting text from a Word document. This can introduce formatting that will cause issues.
Only ever paste PLAIN TEXT into a Captivate project.

Makes sense as I become more aware of Captivate's sensitivities, and the fact Word is a beast of crap formatting protocols. Thanks so much for your advice.
