Can't reset fill in the blank in captivate 8

Community Beginner ,

Hello,

I've inserted a FIB slide which works fine. In the end of the whole course I've made an optional action for the learner, to start the course from the beginning (without having to exit the course window and open it again.) But, the FIB is not reset. I've looked over the Quiz Pass/Fail, but don't understand what kind of action to pick or create (those actions you see in the Quiz pass/fail screen shot is not accurate, just an example), to reset.

I've been asking about quiz settings before, but don't get how to reset FIB.

When starting the course all over from the optional action, the words are already filled in and I can't click on the Submit button at all. Do I have to do something with Infinite attempts? Check the Interaction Data?

Attached screen shots of the settings. Note, I don't want it to report any points and the FIB is not made of inserted text entry-boxes. Everything is created with FIB question slide only.

Your settings show that you do NOT have Retake Quiz button set to appear. When it is set correctly, the Retake Quiz button only appears on the Quiz Result slide when the learner Fails the quiz and there are yet still more attempts allowed.

If the learner passes the quiz, no retake of the same quiz is possible unless the module is completely relaunched, not just jumped back to the first slide.

Pity that you are not using Captivate 9, since then you could have created your FIB questions as Knowledge Check slides which are not reported to the quiz and which DO get reset when you exit and re-enter the slides.

Hi Rod,

Thanks for the info!

I set the FIB On Success Action to jump to the menu slide and the following Result slide to show 0,1 second (with the Retake button included, like you wrote).

In that way the FIB was reset (even when I jumped back to the first slide without exit the window and relaunch), and the Result slide felt like it wasn't there. It worked out just fine!

We are actually considering updating to version 9. A question for that: When updating to 9, do I have to clear all the old caches etc?

I  leave your last question to Rod, but if you use FIB slides as knowledge slides in CP8, maybe this older blog post can help you with resetting them:

Updating to version 9 from version 8 I would suggest you set up a different cache folder altogether.  Just to be safe.

Rod: Sorry for this, but I forgot to ask this yesterday. It's about the shortcut keys in Captivate (I'm on Mac.)

  • When learner visits FIB slide a second time (without relaunching the course), and uses Delete tab to delete a letter or the word in the FIB, the slide suddenly advances/jumps to the next slide. That does not happen the first time.

  • The slide advances even Delete tab is pressed after when the FIB are filled in. Even if the learner didn't finish filling in the blanks and without the feedback showing. My global and project key shortcuts does not have these settings.

( Why the learners clicks on Delete tab is because sometimes they might click on the wrong key by mistake.)

  • You mentioned yesterday: "If the learner passes the quiz, no retake of the same quiz is possible unless the module is completely        relaunched, not just jumped back to the first slide."

Not sure if that has anything to do with the Delete tab, but FIB are empty and the learner is able to fill them in again. No matter if               they succeed or not the first time. Without pressing Delete, the slide works out just fine without the slide advancing.

Do you know how to make Delete not trigger to move to the next slide?

LATEST

I'm on a PC.  I've never heard of the Delete TAB key combination being ever used by anyone.  If a learner wanted to delete something they typed into the fill in the blank text box I would be expecting them to use the Backspace key, not the Delete key.
