Cannot open an HTML link in a new window from a slide

Community Beginner ,

Hello all,

I would like to add a link on the last slide of my project but it is not working:

Example:

On a slide I have the following...

"Click here to view a simulation of ..."

  • I put a click box around "Click here"
  • On Success: Open URL or file
    • URL: lesson2_sim.htm
    • lesson2_sim.htm and its swf file are in the same folder as the current project

Basically, we want the user to launch a simulation in a new window. I've tried testing with lesson2_sim.swf  and some other jpg file and they work. However, I cannot get Captivate to launch an html file. Is this a known issue?

Please help!

Since a while the multiscreen.html which should be used to launch a project published to both SWF and HTML is not working well anymore, probably because the difference between both outputs is too different. Keep to HTML and use the Open URL workflow.

Oops, still publishing to SWF?

For SWF you can also use 'Open Project', point to the Captivate file (cptx) you want to open. When publishing to SWF Captivate will convert that pointer to a link to the published SWF.

If you want to use Open URL, the file to be opened has to be published on a webserver and you need to indicate the unique URL of that file. You cannot just include the published file in the same folder as is possible for pdf's or other simple documents.

Thank you!

I selected both SWF and HTML when I publish (Should i deselect SWF?). I wanted to launch the html file which has the swf embedded in it. I tried launching the SWF file for testing purposes only. Thanks for the suggestions! I'll give them a try
