Captivate 2017 is slow and lagss

New Here ,

Hello,

I'm a new user to Captivate, and the program seems very slow. If I copy and paste a simple object box, a little pop-up progress screen comes up. One thousand one, one thousand two, one thousand three. THREE seconds for copy and paste? Is this normal? Other selections lag when I move objects.

I have a new Dell Laptop with 16 gb of RAM, Windows 10 and a SSD. It's NOT a low-end laptop. I have no other large programs running and memory does not seem to be an issue. I'm running the program as the Admin. Anyone else experiencing this?

Are you working ONLY from projects located on your local hard drive (not over a network) and are the Default Location folders in Preferences also pointing to local hard drive folders?

Rod,

Oh I wish this was on a network, then I could just ask my fabulous IT folks to figure it out. Instead this forum is my IT support. (Thank you in advance to those who answer.)  I'm on running Captivate on my home computer. I looked at Preferences and path points to C:/User/MyName/Documents/Captivate. I also have an iMac in addition to my Windows 10 laptop. Does it work better on a Mac? Uninstall and reinstall - anybody think that will help?

With a good powerful laptop on Windows you should get pretty good performance.

Captivate doesn't usually work more efficiently on a MAC. We've often seen similar complaints about slow performance from MAC users on this forum.

Is this ONLY lagging on a particular Captivate project?  What happens if you close down all projects, start a new project with only a couple of slides and then try to copy / paste an object from one slide to another?  Does it lag then?

Thanks, but none of those worked and some aren't possible (like allocating more RAM to an application). I am on an Imac and not a laptop, not that it should make a difference.

Video card specs and performance matter a lot with programs like Captivate.

Do you have Photoshop? Do you see similar issues?

Many laptops come with 'shared' RAM for video, where the display drivers use the same RAM as the system, effectively giving you less system RAM. These type of video 'cards' also tend to have less powerful GPUs (the video card's cpu).

A truly higher-end laptop will have a higher-end GPU and dedicated video RAM (i.e.2gb dedicated in addition to the system RAM).

However, that's not to say laptops with mid-range GPUs and shared RAM are bad for such programs, but it may be an impact to performance.

One possible option, especially since you have an SSD... Check the BIOS settings for your laptop; can you increase the amount of system RAM dedicated to your video card? If so, max it out and see if that helps.

For me, the issues are with Captivate 2019 ONLY

ALL other Adobe apps work fine..I use:

  • Photoshop
  • Illustrator
  • Audition
  • After Effects
  • Premier
  • In Design

If everything else runs fine, and those are some BIG programs, the challenge MUST just be with CP11 (2019). It runs like crap.. WTH ?????
