Captivate 7 1st quiz review slide has no next button until revisited

New Here ,

I am very new to Captivate. When I click on the review quiz button while previewing the project in Captivate and the LMS there is no next button on the screen. Only when you exit and re-enter the project does the next button appear.

In that case you need the Clear button, to be able to drag the Next button under that clear button. That way, the user cannot click the Next button during the quiz, because it is covered. During Review, the Clear button disappears automatically and the Next button will appear.

In Captivate 7 the Next button if you provide it during quiz has a double functionality:

  • During the Quiz it is a Skip button
  • During Review it is the Next button

If you don't want the user to skip questions, you can drag the Next button under the Clear button (on the master slide for quizzes). During Review, the Clear button will disappear and the Next button will be available. This tweak and more about quiz slide design can be found in:

Unfortunately thre is no clear button either.  I've searched the forum and have seen this answer, but with no clear button I am lost on how to rectify.

Which theme are you using? Can you post a screenshot of the quiz master slide? Both Clear, Next, Back and Submit buttons are embedded objects. Check the Quiz Properties panel, maybe the option for Clear button is unchecked. When you check it you'll have the Clear button, same for the Next button.

No theme. Just using the blank master sildes and inserting the header and footer from a PowerPoint.

You always use a theme. Question slides have dedicated master slides.

Apparently you are not talking about quiz slides at all. Blank master

slides are only used for screen capture and import of ppt, never for quiz

slides. Score slide is based on its own master slide.

I sent a screen shot of the master slide. Due to confidential information I cannot send a shot of the screen that shows there isn't a next button. When you say theme I think color and background. Maybe this shot will help.

A theme is much more than just a background!  You still didn't answer my queston: WHICH THEME do you use?

It looks like a customized theme, was it created in this version or is it an upgraded theme? Themes appeared with CP6.

The score slide never had a Next button. The most important button on that slide is the Continue button, The Review button only appears when you activate the Review option in Quiz Preferences.

You posted already twice the master slide for the score slide, but I want to see the master slide for the Quiz slides, for the question types MCQ, T/F... because that is probably the master slide that you used most of all.

This master slides shows the Next button. But I see that the Clear button has been deleted: do not delete any embedded button or other object on master slides, because that will cause issues. Can you reset the theme, I see that you only added an image as Project background, which could be recreated in seconds. It is possible to unchedk some buttons in the Properties or in the Quiz Preferences, but do not delete on the master slides. An embedded object is an object that has no individual timeline. That is the case with a lot of objects, including the buttons on the quiz slides (and master slides).

Yes, I am willing to reset the theme.  Unfortunately I don't know how to do that though. Okay, got it no deleting embedded objects.

No we do not allow users to skip questions.

Apparently the White theme has been messed up, since that button is gone. The themes you are working with are in a copied folder in the Public documents\Adobe\eLearning assets\Layouts. You'll probably see the date on the White.cptm has been changed. You can put back the original theme from the original Layouts folder, which you find in the installation folder of Captivate under the Gallery.
