Captivate 8 shape used as button to advance to next slide makes module freeze

I have been creating training modules with Captivate 8 for more than a year now. Most of my content is imported from PowerPoint. I then add narration and some Captivate elements, like a shape used as button. When clicked, it should advance to the next slide. This week I started a new project and I set it up as I have been doing successfully for the last year.

However, when I preview my content on the browser or publish it to my Cornerstone LMS, the module freezes after I click the first button.

Not just the button is frozen but also the control bar in the bottom of the module also stopps working.

I tried on Internet Explorer 11, lastest version of Chrome and latest version of Firefox. All the same error.

I checked the setup of the button, and it seems to be correct. It is supposed to go to the next slide and allow infinite attempts.

Can anyone help?

I would first check the console (F12) in the browser and see if there are any errors.

Sometime files are bad, you might want to try creating a test with just a smartshape button and work from there.

After a bit of troubleshooting, I found out that one of the slide backgrounds of my original ppt presentation was where the module was freezing. After changing the slide layout, it works.

So it was due to the setup in PPT, where a user interaction was required to advance.

Our best practice when converting PowerPoint to Captivate is to examine every PowerPoint slide for Animations in the PowerPoint Animation Pane, and to change the action to 'Start After Previous.'

In general, the posters in this forum will tell you to avoid importing PowerPoint and rebuild the slides.

While I agree that this is a best case ideal, it's not been practical for most of the Cp work I've been assigned.

And, I'm currently posting materials to Cornerstone as well.,
