Captivate 9 Crashes During .cpvc project?

Hello,

I've just encountered a nasty situation with Captivate 9. I've been using it for the past 6 months without too much trouble (I've learned I need to run the program as Administrator for best results ), but it now crashes when I try to play a video composition that I am working on.

I recorded the video demo without narration (@1280x720). It plays back fine without narration. I recorded narration using Adobe Audition and exported it as a .mp3 file. I have clicked "Record--> as Project Narration" and then I import my narration .mp3. During playback, I reach a certain point and the program crashes. I've tried the "Record--> as Project Background" and "Import as Project Background" options with the same result.

I'm running this on a Win7, 64 bit machine if that helps. I have also checked for updates, and it says I have the latest.

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated as I'm dead in the water at the moment.

Thank you,

Peter

Hi Rod,

Thanks much for this advice. I am now able to successfully integrate my audio from Adobe Audition into my .cpvc project.

Have you ever considered publishing a "Best Practices" guide? I have found your advice to be particularly useful. A guide would help by providing some useful tips (like this one) and may save users from getting into trouble in the first place.

Thanks again-

Peter

Don't bring the audio in as MP3.  It will be converted by Captivate into WAV format internally anyway.  In Audition, make sure that your WAV file format is 16 bit PCM, not 24 bit or 32 bit, otherwise Captivate may not accept it.

When bringing in narration audio, don't add it to the project background.  That's only intended for music playing behind the normal voiceover audio.  Record as Project

If your audio clip is meant to be for just one slide, use Audio > Record to > Slide.  If it's a longer clip intended to run over several slides or the entire project, use Audio > Record to > Slides and then select the slide range.

Have you also tried clearing out you project cache files.

Open captivate then before opening a project do the following.

Select "Edit" in the menu bar then "Preferences".

Menu_Bar_Edit

Alternately you can press Shift+F8 to bring up the preferences dialogue box.

Capture-erase

The select clear cache.

Shut down and Restart captivate.

Hello,

Thank you for your input. I had tried that before posting. It is kind of amazing how much stuff builds up in there. In my case, I had 7.2 GB of data in the cache before I cleared it.

I have published a number of books on Captivate but the one I think you want is my Troubleshooting Guide:

Are you wasting too many hours troubleshooting annoying issues in Adobe Captivate? | Infosemantics P...

To my knowledge this 500 page book has the most comprehensive list of what to do and NOT do when using Captivate.
