Captivate 9: object style manager

Explorer ,
Nov 04, 2016 Nov 04, 2016

HI

I am using Captivate 9 and I want to change the look of my Hint and Success boxes.  When I change the style using the Object Style Manager, the changes do not appear in the file.  Not sure what I'm doing wrong.  Help.

Thanks, Marion

Select each of these Hint or Success boxes, look in the Properties tab at what it says are their current Object Style names.  If you see a little + sign in front of the name it means that Captivate views their current style as having been modified from the default Object Style of that name.  Look for the little drop down menu beside the Style Name and choose the option to Reset Style.

Are you using captions or shapes for SFH (Success, Failure, Hint)? Not only do you have to be sure that you changed the style of the correct object, but, as Rod points out it will not work when the default styles are overridden.

Did you change the default style or create a new style?

Thank you for both replies!

I had created a click box and the Success box appeared. I modified the first Success box in my file using Properties and I did see the + sign next to the style name. I think continued onto another slide and modified that Success box using the same format; that's when it occurred to me that I should use Edit -> Object Style Manger to modify it there as it would auto set the new format for the entire file. I made some more format changes within the Object Style Manager and that's when I noticed that it did not change the Success boxes.

What are the proper steps in modifying a Success or Hint or Failure box's style to ensure they all look the same?  If in this case, I modified a couple of them and now want to use the style I set up in the Object Style Manager, how do I do that?

Thanks (I'm a newby and am learning as I go), Marion

Never override a style, that is the first recommendation! That + sign means you did override the style and didn't use the hamburger menu to save the changes to that existing default style. If you had done that, all other Success captions or shapes would have been changed immediately. You could have done the same from the OSM.
