Hi, is there any way to do this? I could use the vertical screen space. Even substituting smaller icons would work.
Thanks!

Go to Project, Skin editor and uncheck Playbar. If it was not set in overlay, the border will be remaining, but you can uncheck the border as well (same Skin editor, second tab).

I'm thinking you want to Enable Custom Workspaces, but I don't think it will remove the 'big icons' or recover any screen real estate for project windows.
This is found in Global Preferences -> General Settings.
+1 from me, but many of the menu options for adding items now in the big icons were removed in Cp 8.

Maybe I misunderstood indeed. My first complaint about that (stupid) UI change was that the Big Button Bar (which I use rarely, only when shortcut keys lack) takes up too much space. None of the toolbars (there is also alignment) can be moved. Even the vertical docking panels cannot be minimized anymore, no panel can be reduced to an icon, only to its title bar; I am very nostalgic, wished I could use the CP7 interface in CP9. It would save not only real estate but would reduce mouse movements and clicks that are just time waste.
