Captivate 9 seems to be using a great deal of CPU

I have recently upgraded from Captivate 8 to Captivate 9.  I like it so far, but even doing normal things (such as opening a Captivate 9 format file) it tends to take a while and during that time, according to Resource Manager, my CPU is pegged out at 100%.

When I try to open a Captivate 8 format file, then I might as well take a break because the CPU usage goes to and stays at 100% until it is done.

I am currently running Captivate 9.0.0.223 and using an Intel Core i7-377 CPU @ 3.4 GHz on a Windows-7 Pro machine.

Is anyone having this problem?

Are there any optimization settings settings that I can use with my Captivate 9 client?

Are you on a corporate network, using virtual My Documents folders, or roaming profiles?

Are you working on CPTX files that are stored on a network and not on your local hard drive?

I work in a corporation and my PC is connected to our local network.  But all the files that I am working with are on my C drive (not a virtual drive nor any other type of VM).

Before I tried opening a cptx file on my C drive, I opened up my Windows resource manager and spread out all of the areas.  After selecting Open File, I watched the various sections (CPU, disk, network, etc...) just to see if the system was being IO bound, but disk IO was about average, but the CPU was pegged at 100 percent until the file finally opened in Captivate.

One thing that I did find strange was when I went to the Performance tab of Task Manager, there were 8 charts CPU, so I am guessing that I have an 8 way processor.  But all of the extremely high activity only showed up on one of the charts (or processor).  I had always thought that the activity would be shared across multiple processors, but I could be wrong.

Hi there,

May I know your machine configuration and the Project size? Opening a Captivate 8 file in Captivate 9 takes more time in first opens it requires upgrade;but ideally the performance slow down should not be seen if you 'Save As' the project as a Cp9 file and open it again. Let us know in case if you are seeing the performance issue even after saving the file as Captivate 9 file.

You didn't mention your Installed RAM, installing more than the hardware manufacturer provides is a good way to boost Captivate's performance.

Windows 7 Pro with Service Pack 1 (64 bit)

Processor:  Intel Core i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40 GHz

Installed Ram: 16 GB

Size of .cptx file:  38 MB

This is a screen shot of what my system was doing when I was just opening an existing Captivate 9 format .cptx file.  This screenshot was taken right after the file open was completed (you can tell when it started and ended by looking at when the CPU usage on the left was pegged at 100%):

Before I tried to open the Captivate 9 file, I had closed down all the other programs that I had running (at least the programs that I could close out of).

I am having this problem too. Im running a late 2015 5k iMac with a 4.0GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 (Turbo Boost up to 4.2GHz), 40GB RAM, and an AMD Radeon R9 M395X with 4GB of GDDR5 memory.

Im getting huge lag when even resizing the Captivate program window, and basically doing anything within Captivate. Resource monitor shows up to 103% CPU usage.

Memory usage isn't really going above 1.15GB.
