Hello,
I am recording some software simulations and when I click, it does not record the slide. It will record typing, and it will capture if I set up a capture hotkey, but clicks do nothing. I checked preferences and didn't find anything that controlled this, and I even tried deleting the preferences folder and reinstalling Captivate 9. I haven't recorded a simulation in several months so I'm not sure when it stopped working

Do you run Captivate as Administrator (if you are on a PC)? For software simulations that is essential.

I never have run it as an administrator and it's never been an issue before. I just now tried running it as administrator and it still did not work.

In that case you were very lucky, normally capturing needs it. What type of software do you want to capture? Are you using the classic cptx method, in Demo, Training or Assessment or did you try a Video demo (cpvc)?

It's web based customer relationship management software. I've recorded thousands of slides of it before. I also tried just capturing my desktop and Outlook and clicking does nothing. I am running the software simulation in Automatic, but I also tried recording as a video demo. Video demo mode works just fine.

Hi there
Have you tried clearing your preferences?
Click here to watch a video for how to do that
Cheers... Rick

Clearing preference seemed to do it, but oddly Captivate won't capture slides on just one of my 3 monitors. it works on the other two. I can live with that though. Thanks

Some web based applications are not captured well, maybe that is what is happening in this case. Which modes did you choose: Automatic tells only that you are not taking manual screenshots?

If you're still fighting with this, I'd recommend you disconnect the additional monitors for a recording session and see how that changes things.
If Cp is trying to buffer all the pixels from your display it could be causing a RAM shortage during the recording.
Were the earlier recordings done with the same multi-monitor setup?
Have you updated the OS? Updated Captivate?
What other changes have happened to this system?

A colleague helped me to troubleshoot the issue/workaround.
(For others reading this, I experienced the same issues as described in the first post.)
I'm using Windows 7. Both OS and Captivate 9 were recently rebuilt/reinstalled.
The solution was to set the monitor on which I want to record as my "main display." This is a setting in Control Panel, Display, Screen Resolution ("change the appearance of your displays"). After I set the monitor as my "main display," Captivate recorded the screen movements as expected, even with an additional second monitor still connected.
Problem resolved - thanks for those who posted. I hope this helps others who encounter this issue.

This is also an issue with Captivate 10 on Windows 10.
Recording on the 'main' display, rather than my 2nd monitor solved it for me too.
