Captivate Crashing and Content is not showing when published

New Here ,
May 28, 2018 May 28, 2018

Hi,

I am encountering a problem both in Captivate 8 and 9.

First, when copying or duplicating a slide, some of the content is missing especially buttons, widgets, etc.

Second, when trying to view the course whether as a published one or inline view (view from this slide, view next slide, etc.) content of the slide is also not showing.

I already tried to uninstall/reinstall the application but the issue continues to exist.

John

Are you on the most recent versions of 8 and 9? For 9 that is 9.0.2.437, for 8 not totally sure but is 8.0.3.

Which OS do you use? CP8 was not compatible with Win10. Do you Run as Admininstrator? Do you clear the cache regularly? Did you try leaning preferences (has to be done when reinstalling as well)?

Are you talking about content on the slide or inherited from master slides? Do you have items timed for the rest of the project, because they'll show up on slides but will not be dupicated necessarily with the slide. The Preview 'From this Slide' will also cause issues with objects timed for the rest of the project.

Do you publixh to SWF or to HTML?

Below is the image grab that I am referring to.

I just updated the version of both 9 and 8.

I am using Win 10 and Yes, I am running the application as administrator. I already did clearing the cache but the issue still prevails.

I am talking about the content of the slides. Once I view it both as published and as regular inline view contents disappear. Also, once I copied or duplicate the slides, buttons used also disappears.

When publishing, I usually published a course both as SWF and HTML5.

This could be an issue with the Theme.

As an experiment, try taking a copy of your project file and then change the Theme to one of the standard ones that come with Captivate.  See if the objects then return.

I am not using themes in Captivate. The background was done in powerpoint then the text is in Captivate.

The process of importing/converting the ppt work I have in Captivate does not have any issues before. I am having the issues of content missing when published or when I copied/duplicated the slide.

Hang on, this project started life in PowerPoint?  I didn't see that mentioned before in this thread.  Well that changes things quite a bit.

All Captivate projects use a Theme of some type, even if it is the Blank theme.

Were these quiz slides built AFTER you imported them into Captivate or before?

No, there's no quiz slide built after I imported the course. I usually build my assessment/quizzes in Captivate. I am customizing my own quiz slides (e.g. buttons, pop-ups for wrong and correct answer. background, etc.). The only thing I used in CPT in quizzes are the learning interactions widget.

OK then, since you are using interactive objects such as buttons, my next assumption is that you may have objects pausing the timeline before other objects are due to appear and that could be why they are 'missing'.

Can you show us a screenshot of the timeline for one of these problematic interactions?

Below is the image. Time doesn't have any pause.

The screenshot doesn't show the objects inside those three groups near the top.

If the button you can't see is the one on about the fourth layer from the bottom, have you tried moving it up to the top of the layer stack?  Perhaps it is hidden underneath other objects.

All the timing of the objects were set to "Rest of Slide" if that is what you want to know.

As for the missing button, what is happening was when I duplicate the slide that has the same content even if the button is showing in the previous slide, once duplicated that is the time where the elements started to be invisible.

OK.  We are not understanding each other here.  I wasn't referring to whether or not the objects were timed for rest of slide.

I want you to open up those groups on the timeline so that we can see the layers of the objects WITHIN the groups.  Some of them may be interactive objects that are pausing the timeline.  This is a common 'issue' with Captivate developers when not understanding the way the timeline works.

The second issue I suggested is that if your buttons or objects that the learner needs to interact with are not sitting ABOVE other layers that might hide them then the learners will not see them during playback.  When you duplicate or copy / paste slides, sometimes the layer orders can be changed in the process.  So I encouraged you to drag that button shown on the layer near the bottom right up to the top level to see if that made the button then become visible.

You can NOT escape using a theme in Captivate. Even if you use the Blank theme, and build all content slides using the Blank master slide, you still will use the Object styles defined in that theme, its skin, Theme colors palette and eventually Recording defaults.  It looks like you are stumbling on the three stumbling blocks for newbies: Timeline (look at Rod's questions), Quiz and Themes. If you want some more information, have a look at:

What's in a Theme - a Template? - Captivate blog

Challenges for Starters - Captivate blog

Pausing Captivate's Timeline - Captivate blog

I see in the screenshot of the Timeline that you do pause the timeline at its end using a click box. That is very weird, because you have already at least one interactive objectswhich could have paused the timeline. Interactive objects typically have a green timeline. Exceptions: learning interactions have always a green timeline, whether they are interactive or not. I suspect the widget_1 is a radiobuttons interaction? You cannot pause with that interaction which is static, not interactive.  It can be confsising when you start creating a custom question/survey slide without first learning about the basics of Captivate. Why didn't you use a MCQ slide in this case? It would have spared you some furstratio

I do not published to both SWF and HTML anymore because I had issues. Did

you try to publish only to HTML or only to SWF?

There may be a problem with the theme: was it created in the version or

upgraded?
