We use Captivate version 6. When trying to open the file, the familiar message of Could not open... appears.
We have tried to do the following:
1. Delete lock files in both the working Captivate folder and the Cache folder
2. Downloaded the software from this blog and ran through the suggested steps: http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2010/09/recovering-the-project.htm
Any ideas on what else we can try?

The usual reason is that the project has become corrupted. That can occur if you have been working on files over a network connection instead of locally, or if you have been pasting in a lot of content from another source. It's often impossible to establish the cause.

Hopefully if you have followed the frequent suggestions to have backups turned on then you won't have lost too much work.
