Captivate Slide Layers

New Here ,

I'm pretty new to e-learning as a whole, but have used Storyline a little bit. A feature I liked was the ease of adding slide layers. Is there something similar in Captivate? Thanks.

Maybe you should explain what you mean. I am not a StoryLine user at all, know that some SL features do not exist in Captivate the same way many CP features do not exist in SL (like Library, advanced actions, variable, shared actions...). If you give details about what you want to achieve, a typical CP work flow could be explained. Or...go back to SL.

Okay. In SL, I could create a slide with my content. I could then set up a button so that when the user clicked on it, a slide layer showed up over my original slide. This was usually used for providing feedback to a quiz response or additional information about something on the original slide. Then, users could close out of the layer and find themselves back on the original slide.

My current employer doesn't have a license with Storyline and from what I've heard, CP has a lot more to offer developers anyway.

Captivate doesn't have a specific Layers function as such but you can achieve a similar result to Storyline layers by setting up the objects that you want to appear on the 'layer' and then group them so that you can SHOW or HIDE them more efficiently with Advanced Actions.

Totally agree with your last sentence (of course)

You can do the same with states or with Hide/Show in Captivate. Have a look at the movie (it is a SWF, so be sure to be on desktop)  in this blog post:
