Capturing a Skype video using captivate 9

Community Beginner ,
Oct 31, 2017 Oct 31, 2017

Hello,

Can captivate capture a Skype recording? I have tried it  many ways and failed at each recording. The results have been lets just say, a single screen capture that is 30 minutes long. I have read the various discussion and found no solution.

I am hoping someone has had success and is willing to share there process.

Thank you for you time.

Did you try capturing as a Video Demo?

Hi Rod,

Yes I did. The result was a 30 minutes long video just single frame and no movement recorded. I also tried software simulation recording the same results.

OK well if Video Demo didn't work for you then maybe one of these apps suggested by Microsoft will do the trick:

How can I record my Skype calls?

Captivate is capable of recording two different styles of full motion recording - Video Demo (ideal for making videos) or Software Simulation (more suited for creating interactive content). Do you know which style of recording you've attempted?

Hi Paul,

I tried both demo recording and software simulation. We have centers across the globe and I need to record what the users are doing while working with a proprietary software. The video data will help me map out a gap analysis of there selection.

I don't think Captivate is the software for this application. My suggestion would be to use background screen recording software used by call centers.

If you wanted to use Captivate, not only would you need to license Captivate for $30 per month x 12 months x the number of users in your gap analysis, but you would need to train the users in the operation of Captivate to record themselves. Seems like a lot of work and cost.
