Closed captioning with TTS - audio

In Captvate 8...is there a way to have closed captioning without the accompanying TTS audio?

Thanks

It doesn't have to be TTS audio, but you need audio...in order to be able to create CC. I don't understand why you are asking this: CC is meant to show the text that users normally will listen to. Perhaps you have another goal in your mind? I never use TTS but create VO.

Yes you are right...I do have "other" audio. I am using advanced actions to control the playing of the audio. But I also want closed captioning. I create the TTS to get the CC, then turn off the TTS...but the effect is no CC either!

My bad, because only slide audio will be OK to have CC, but you can cheat a bit...

Try putting a very short audio clip (noise?) as slide audio?

Surely I need the correct TTS audio to generate and maintain the correct closed captioned text.

Closed Captioning and TTS are two separate things (as LilyBiri said)... you don't need TTS to make Closed Captioning.

If you have slide audio (one track that plays the whole time--I'm assuming this would be voice narration or something, but doesn't need to be), simply double-click on the slide audio in the Timeline and you should see a "Closed Captioning" tab.

Once you're there, you can put markers in your audio via the plus sign and then type in the text you'd like for that portion of the audio. See below:7-15-2015 4-19-29 PM.png

HOWEVER, this only works on SLIDE AUDIO. If you have audio associated with objects or other things, Closed Captioning just won't work for those

Your best bet in those cases would be to "fake" it via text boxes that pop in and out on the bottom that you can control.

hope that helps!

Yes, my issue IS that I am using non-slide audio but I also want closed captioning of that same audio speech. This is an accessilbity issue. Using slide audio will produce a duplication of the audio over a screen reader.

Many thanks to you and Lilybiri who never fails to try to address my Captivate questions...even as I try to stretch the capabilties of this already great product.....
