Continue button on test results not working in Captivate 9

Explorer ,
Dec 12, 2016 Dec 12, 2016

On the test results page, I have to click the Continue button twice to get it to navigate correctly. If I click it once it just sits there. I saw some earlier post about a bug in captivate? Anybody have any suggestions?

Thank you,

Teresa

Can you post a screenshot of the timeline of the score slide, and of the actions for 'Passing Grade' and 'Failing Grade' from the Quiz, Preferences?

Ok, so I was getting your screenshots and I turned off the Show Main Master Slide Objects checkbox on the Test Results slide because I did not want to send that and I just decided to test and the Continue button worked. So there is some issue with what I have on the Main master slide object. I had two smart shapes that I used as buttons on the Main master Slide, I removed these from the master slide and now the Continue button works. So there must be an issue with having a smart object button on the main master slide on the test results page

That was my suspicion: are any of the buttons on that main master slide set to pause? In that case they will pause at the end of each slide, including the score slide. Since the score slide has also a pausing point at 1.5secs, which is valid for the Continue button you'll have to click twice because the playhead will stop again at the end of the slide. That was the reason for my second question: if you leave the Passing Grade/Failing Grade actions to the default Continue, this behavior is normal. If you change them to a 'jump to slide' or 'Go to Next slide', you are jumping over the pausing point at the end of the slide (from the master slide buttons).

The jump to slide does not jump over pause, it still requires two clicks. I guess my solution will have to be to remove those buttons from the master or not use the master on the test results slide right?

That is not normal, are those shape buttons pausing on the main master slide? Did you change the actions on Quiz Preferences? Since you have them on the score slide, I suppose they are on the main master slide. You could put them only on the content master slides, bit more work, but that way they will not be on the score slide which has a dedicated master slide. You can also have those buttons on the first slide, time them for the rest of the project, always on top. That way you can hide them on quiz/score slides.

Do you need them to pause really? Maybe, if those are Next/Back buttons, at least one should pause. You don't need those on quiz/score slide at all.

It was an exit and help button that was supposed to always be available. I had originally put on master slide because I had a problem with slides continuing before user clicked next. So the paused button on Master fixed that. I think I can remove them from test Results screen.

Thank you for your help,

Teresa

Help button doesn't need to have a pausing point, you can pause with the action it triggers. Normally i wouldn't put a pause on an Exit button neither.

Ok, thanks I will try that. However, I put pauses because I was having an issue with slides going to next slide before user clicked the next button.

Are you talking about the Next button on the playbar? That is not meant to pause the slide. Since you are using already custom buttons, why not have a Next button as well, on the first slide, timed for the rest of the project which you hide/show when you want? I find the playbar limiting, especially for non-linear projects. Moreover the progress bar allows the user to scrub through the project very quickly.

No I am not using the Playbar. I have a custom next button displayed on first slide set for rest of project, however I was having issues on slides with interactions that the slide would automatically go to the next slide when users interacted with the slide. That is why I put the exit button on the master slide and set to pause until user clicked.

And when is that Next button pausing? Now I see already three possible pausing points: from the buttons on the master slide, pausing at the end of each slide, from the score slide (1,5secs) and from the Next button (?? secs). That was the reason of my first questions.

Learning interactions do not pause the slide, you need indeed an interactive object.
