course being marked as in progress in captivate instead of completed If user passes quiz

I am having a problem where users who don't pass my quiz SCORM on the first try, they basically get stuck and no matter how many times they take it again and pass it, it is still marked as incomplete unless we go into our LMS back end and manually pass them.  This is a file I inherited from a previous Instructional designer, So I'm not sure if there is just a weird setting I am not finding or something else. My Pass fail percent is set at 84% and my LMS administrator did some trouble shooting on their end and confirmed it wasn't an LMS issue it is an issue with the scorm file.

Here is their exact quote:

"this leads me to believe that there is an internal issue within the SCORM file and how it's sending it's commits along with the type of commits it's sending to the portal during failure of exam attempts that should be reviewed within your course provider program"

Here are my settings, I was wondering if it was the 100% slide view issue, that I have seen on other posts about this, but it looks like I can't change that when I select the quiz as the pass/fail decider.

And I have slides that show after the results page for whether a user passes or fails with instructions to exit the course.

Thank you for any ideas!

I see that you are not using the most recent version 12.2, from the UI of your screenshots. However I would like to know the exact version number. You can find it under Help, About Captivate.

You posted some Quiz Preferences, but not the Settings. Can you insert that screenshot as well? I want to see the field 'Required' and some more settings.

You have slides after the score slide, which is great. Attempts on quiz level is set to Infinite with the Retake button. Do you allow Review? If yes, did you drag the Review button under the Retake button?

As for being sure the problem is with Captivate, can you try out the output in SCORM Cloud? That is the best way to be sure the LMS is not involved with the problem.

Another possible problem: you use SCORM 1.2. The list of interaction data which can be sent is limited in that version and that could also be the problem.

I will run through the file in scorm cloud and see what I can find

Actually it looks like maybe I do allow review, but there is no review button on my results slide at all. Would this be causing the problem?

Indeed you do allow Review but someone has messed up the score slide.

On quiz/score slides you have embedded objects. Those objects have no individual timeline, not on the master slide and not on the actual slide.  That results in a timeline where you only see the slide tmeline. But in your screenshot I see several shapes, and one of them is even activated as a button. This is not the default score slide, and I fear that some essential items have been replaced by custom items, which also can cause the loss of the functionality. You still have the Review area and the Continue button which is linked to the pausing point of the slide. Try to re-apply the original Result master slide. Look at it: it has all the inbuilt buttons, not only the Continue button but also the Review and the Retake button. It is a non-responsive project, so it is possible to drag the Review under the Retake button.

You are using 11.8.0 which is a very buggy release... sorry to tell you. It is not the most recent one neither.

You may learn something from this article from my basic quiz course:

At the end I explain the setup of the score slide.

Is there a set way to reapply an original master slide? I tried resetting it and it still looks like it might have errors, I tried changing the theme so it would maybe reset to a new master slide and I feel like it is still missing buttons. There are two buttons in the preview on the left that aren't showing. I know my version is out of date, but unfortunately that is the version my work has purchased, so I can't really help myself much there, just have to work around it as best I can

It is possible that the results master slide has been messed up, can you show a screenshot of that master slide? I suppose that you used the button 'Reset Master Slide'?

Don't label this verion as 'outdated', I keep to version 11.5.5.553 because all the version 11.8 are buggy. They were created to cope with another iOS update (they always kill application functionality).  The most recent version 11.8.2 is needed if you want to have both the new version 12 and an older more complete version on the same system, but it is also very buggy.

Yes I used the reset masterslide button.  Actually.  my whole process was

  1. Copying in a slide with a different theme
  2. In the properties panel of the quiz result slide selecting  the "Blank theme"
  3. Reset master slide.

It then looks like this

So I deleted the extra continue button

and it looks like this

This is what the blank master looks like in master view

You are now getting more themes in one project, I know that this is possible, but can cause a lot of issues. I never understood why the team introduced multiple themes in projects with version 11.5.5 when they are aware of the fact that lot of Captivate users don't even know anything about themes. I have seen projects where all blank slides are linked to another theme.... Especially with the master slides belonging to quizzes you need to be extremely careful.

Master slide from that Blank theme is OK. Both the Retake button and Post Result button are optional. The first is only needed when you have activated multiple attempts on Quiz level, the second is bit outdated and only used with the workflow of an Internal Server (no LMS). The Timeline is clean: all the objects on the slide are embedded, whereas in the other score slide you had 3 custom items added. That is fine for non-interactive objects like the variable above the title, but replacing the original Continue button (which is responsible for most of the functionality) is very bad.
