Course not marking as complete in LMS - 100% slide views, no quiz

We have a course that does not have a quiz, so we set it up to mark completion based on 100% slide views. It's not doing so in the LMS. I suppose I have two questions, after reading some previous forum questions on this topic:

  1. Does a slide view equal viewing the entire slide. Meaning, if the slide's length is 40 seconds, but the Next button pops up at 30 seconds with a pause. If they select Next will it mark that slide as viewed?
  2. Should I instead set up Slide Views to equal the entire number of slides, rather than a percentage?

It used to be that a slide was not 'complete' until, indeed, the playhead reached the end.

So your example would result in the given slide not being complete.

I *think* that changed in CP7 (?) so now a slide is 'complete' when the playhead starts per slide...

I could be wrong...

Options:

1. Play the piece via the LMS and be SURE each slide plays to completion. Give it a playback bar if needed, temporarily, to skip any custom Next buttons.

2. Create a small piece (i.e. 5 slides) that are very simple, no stops in the timelines, and see if it tracks properly (assuming you let each slide play to the end.

In the past, when I knew some slides were not going to be 100% viewed (long slides, users skipping ahead), we would mark projects as complete at 90% or 95% viewed, which ensured enough of the project slides were viewed but allowed for some...buffer.

OR your idea of using Number of Slides may work better, as long as you account for any slides that may be skipped at any point. And I do think 'Views' will definitely mean just 'viewed' without any worry about how much (through to completion).

Thanks for the response. As one follow up - would slide views be tallied based on a particular session? For example, if the user launches a 50 slide course, but midway through exits and resumes. Will the previous 25 slides be counted with the final 25?

Probably.

It depends on two things:

1. If you do NOT check 'Never Send Resume Data' in the Captivate SCORM preferences, CP should send back the data it needs to restore the session/data/tracking on next launch...but...

2. Does your LMS properly restore sessions? If so, then, yes, completion should be properly noted in the LMS if the user views some percentage of the slides in one session and the remaining percentage in another.
