Hi there,
I have a question regarding customizing table of content in Adobe Captivate 9.
Here are the things that I wish to do with my TOC:
1. Display everything in one TOC frame without the scroll bar (our audiences are older adults, we wish to make things easy-to-read for them).
2. Display the titles in full length without folding them (our audiences might not know the trick to "read" the titles when they're folded).
Could you please let me know how I could achieve that?
Thank you so much!
Best,
Su

I'm sorry but the TOC customization has limits. You can increase its width to have more space for longer titles. If you do not want the scrollbar, you'll have to limit the number of slides. Try to have more content on a slide, which will probably request use of advanced actiosn, multistate objects etc.

Hi Lilybiri,
Thank you so much for your insights!
No need to apologize! It's not your fault
May I please ask if it's possible to have two lines of title in one title box?
Also, are there ways (complicated or not) to remove the scrollbar without having to shorten the list of content at all?
My final inquiry is that is it possible to customize scrollbar's color without using the TOC templates?
Please let me know what you think.
Thank you so much!
Best,
Su

What do you mean by 'two lines of title in a title box'?
No way to remove the scrollbar if the vertical needed space is higher than the TOC height. Use a smaller font size for the items in the list.
I don't know of any way to customize the colors unless by using the customisation settings in the TOC dialog box. Maybe some CSS expert could help you.
Why not create a custom TOC, which you time for the rest of the project, using a toggle button to have it appear and disappear?

Hi Lilybiri,
Thank you so much for your reply!
I was trying to brainstorm ways I could "unfold". I changed the width of my TOC, now it's quite aesthetically interesting...
Lilybiri, I figured out a better way to show you what I meant: https://sites.google.com/a/ehilll.com/ehilll/
Basically, I wish to create a one-frame TOC that has all the information clearly displayed, similar to tutorials on the ehilll website.
Does this make sense?
Please let me know.
Thank you so much!
Best,
Su

What you showed is what will show up in most LMS's if you create a separate file for each of the courses and upload them that way.
I have some ideas on my blog, but they may be over your head. One possiblitiy is to use a dopdown list poupulates with yperlinked text as described here: More is in a... hyperlink - Dropdown Menu - Captivate blog
Another possiblity is to use a text container (shape or aption) on the first slide, timed for the rest of the project, but hidden in output. Provide a toggle button (shape button) as well, either on the main master slide or on the first slide, timed for the rest of the project. You can use the shared action described in this blog post (with the user variable v_visib): 1 action = 5 Toggle Buttons - Captivate blog
Be careful: if you work on a responsive project, using the Fluid Boxes workflow, some scenarios are not possible because timeing for the rest of the project is not possible with that workflow. I described the limitations of fluid boxes in: Fluid Boxes Or Breakpoint Views? - Captivate blog

Thank you so much for your help, Lilybiri!
I am, indeed, a beginner of Adobe Captivate
But I don't think those tutorials' TOCs are created with advanced actions at all.
It's possible that what I need is a script that could change the length of TOC titles.

That was a web page. If you upload to a LMS something similar will be created in the LMS which allows formatting.
Do not judge Advanced actions before you know what they are capable of. You can time anything for the rest of the project, or even on the master slide. Simple, advanced or shared actions will allow to set up the items in the custom TOC as navigational buttons. That is what I tried to explain with the link to the Hyperlink post. Not so complicated, but finding an automatic script will be unsuccessful I'm afraid.

You may wish to consider building your own custom table of contents. It's a bit more work as you will need to apply several different advanced actions. Here is a video I did showing you how you can do something similar. It might give you some ideas.

Hi Mr. Wilson,
Thank you so much for your help!
I've been watching your videos, tons of them! They are brilliant!
I will carefully review that video you shared with me.
Though I'm not sure, I think what I want might be less complicated,
Here are some examples of the TOC I wish to design: https://sites.google.com/a/ehilll.com/ehilll/
May I please ask if there is a way for me to design a TOC that is similar to the ones shown on the ehilll website?
Those files were created using an older version of Adobe Captivate.
Please let me know what you think.
Thank you so much!
Best,
Su

If you had two or more projects that you wanted to package together like this and were using an LMS that was compatible with SCORM 2004, you could use the multi sco packager, which is included with Captivate to package them up with a similar menu to what your site is showing. While I don't use it myself, I did a video about to answer a viewers question a few years ago. Here's the link:

Thank you so much for your help, Mr. Wilson!
My apologies for not clearly stating my questions.
I think what I need is a script that could change the length of TOC titles, so that all my titles could fit into one frame without the scrollbar.
I also want to display my TOC for the whole project, separate from the content, which means advanced actions offer little help in this scenario, no?
