D&D interaction quits after 1 event

New Here ,
Nov 23, 2016 Nov 23, 2016

I have a  drag and drop interaction where the learner has to place correctly selected items into a container. All items are grouped  by good choices or poor choices. I created a second state for all the good choice objects so they disappear when they hit the ta rget. The incorrect items-"poor choices" bounce back to their original positions, as rejected by the target. That works fin e.

My probl em is when I preview in a browser or publish, I can only achieve 1 instance with 1 correct item. Then I'm no longer able to se lect any other items. As I said, the incorrect items work fine, but the minute I select a correct item- game over.

Any idea s?

Many th anks in advance!

This is a screen shot of the situation.

I suspect you are using version 9 because you are talking about states? However, you do not need a state to have a drag object disappear when it is correctly dragged: you can use both the Scale and Alpha settings for that goal.

You probably use the Object actions to change the state. Did you perhaps forget to uncheck the option 'Continue Playing project'?

BTW: the D&D objects have also InBuitl states, have a look at: Drag&Drop in 2016 with Captivate 9 - Captivate blog

Thank you- I’ll check that tonight. Yes- version 9.

I’m not sure how to use scale and alpha- very much a novice taking a graduate course.

Thanks again!

Michelle

Select the drop target, and you can set the snapping behavior of all drag sources:

DDAlpha.png

In this screenshot you see that I have changed both the Size and the Opacity (here that word is used instead of the normal Alpha) both to 0%. One of them would have been sufficient. It is also possible to choose to have the object disappear behind the target (if it is big enoug) by changing the field Depth from Front to Back.

Thank you so much. That was very helpful.

My problem still remains with the functionality of the "good choice" items. Once I drag one of the items to the target I can no longer select any other object on the page. In effect, the interactivity quits playing.

Something must be wrong in the Object Actions. Can you post a screenshot of that dialog box?

You are sure that unchecked the 'Continue Playing the Project' for ALL object actions?

Those images don't tell me anything, only that you have one target. I asked for the Object actions dialog box and if you did uncheck Continue Playing Project for all the object actions?

What is the functionality of that click box? A D&D slide is normally pausing (see Timing Properties) and will remain paused. Only after clicking the Submit button, the actions On Succes and Failure will be executed. If those actions do have a command 'Continue' or 'Go to Next slide' or similar navigation commands, the playhead will be released.

I'm not seeing where that box is- Continue Playing Project. I think this is the screen you wanted to see. Screen Shot 2016-11-24 at 8.31.27 AM

You don't use the object actions! How is the setup for the D&D itself: attempts, actions Success/Failure?

Repeat my question: what is the functionality of that click box, please and what is the setup of that click box?

I apologize. I'm very new to Captivate, this course I'm taking is the first time I've used it.

You probably  have narrowed down the problem though. I don't know how to  set up the dra g & drop interactions to achieve what I want. Evidently, I haven't  made the setu p as I'm not sure what to select to achieve the effects I want.  Maybe we can  come at it that way.

How should I s et up the interactio ns for the following to happen:

1. When dragge d to the target, the  item "Good Choice" item disappears and I can continue to  select items, of eit her type to drag onto the backpack.

2. When draggi ng a "P oor Choice"  item, it is refused by the target, returning to its original posi tion.

I just don't kno w what selections to make for each scenario- attempts, actions, success/failure.

I appreciate your patience and help- especially given that it's Thanksgiving.

From the images I see that you have a lot of drag sources and one drop target, correct?

In the Object Actions dialog box (which you open with the button with that label after selecting the Drop Target), you'll see the connections you made when setting up the D&D. At this moment I see that you only choose to have one correct drag action, is that correct? The only object that will be accepted is 'Good choice'. All the other objects, although defined as being drag sources will be bounced back.

Still you didn't answer my question about that CLICK BOX? What is its purpose? Where is the Submit button?

Show a screenshot of the Actions tab in the D&D panel, please. Same for the Options tab.

       Yes, 1 target, many sources.

I dragged the submit button off the stage because I didn't know what else to do  with it- I don't want a submit button in this interaction. Didn't know how to get around it.

I'm sorry, I don't understand what click box you are referring to. I'll read the  blog post  you provided to see if that helps. Thank you for  providing it. I'm going to be out for the rest of the day. I truly appreciate your efforts to help me and wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!

You have actions On Success and on Failure for the D&D.  Those actions are on the Actions tab. Do not always post images of the screen, but of the parts I asked for. Those images do not help to understand. When the submit button is clicked those actions will be done. That Submit button is very important!
