Delay in text animation - Captivate 12.x

Explorer ,
Nov 20, 2024 Nov 20, 2024

Anyone experiencing strange behaviour with animations? I have attached a video showing what happens.

When animating text, one line at a time, a problem occures where the animation delay time gets doubled. This is how to replicate the problem:

1. Animate a line or two of text. Delay the animation by a few seconds.

2. Enter the slide and the timing will be perfect.

3. Move to the next slide, or go back a slide, end re-enter the slide with the animation again. You must do this before the slide (next or back) you navigated to ends.

4. When returning to the slide, the delay of the animation has doubled.

Please will someone test this and get back to me. I have tested it on several machines and have the same problem.

To add to this, this is the message I sent to support to better explain what happens. This error happens on all machines I have tried so, unless they are isolated to South Africa :), it will happen to you. This is a big problem.

Hi Support

I have come across a serious error with the timing of the animations. I have attached an example for you to see. The timing of an animation gets doubled when you enter a slide with an animation on it from a slide that has not run to the end.

In the attached example, let the first slide run to the end (3 seconds). Navigate to the next slide. The first text and image will pop up (images are animated). 2 seconds later the second image and text pops up. All is good.

Navigate to either the next or previous slide and then return to the second slide before the 3 seconds is up. You will notice that the first image and text works fine, but now the second image is delayed by double the time the animation was set for. In the example, the text appears but the image now takes 4 seconds to appear. Whatever the time of the animation, it gets doubled.

It seems that a timing variable is being reset at the end of a slide, but not when a slide is exited.

I have had a meeting with the developers in India. They can see the problem on their side. Hopefully they will patch this with the next release.

Thank you for reporting this. I've had serious issues with animations, both for images and text. Animation timing is inconsistent between the Captivate timeline, previewing the project, and previewing the project in SCORM Cloud (or our LMS). The animation types are not consistently working either. For example, I apply the 'Fade in' animation to an image. It appears to work on the Captivate timeline but when previewed, the image appears on screen abruptly with no fade.
