Does Captivate work well with other programs in Creative cloud?

New Here ,

Does Captivate work together with other Adobe creative cloud programs? Like, for example, if you use a picture in Premiere than you've edited in Photoshop, you can go back and re-edit in Photoshop and the changes show in Premiere.

It does do roundtripping with PhotoShop for image editing.  And you can update the original graphic outside Captivate and then right click on the copy of it inside the project file and select Update from the context menu.  This works as long as you haven't changed the path to the original graphic.

There is similar functionality for editing sound files using Adobe Audition.  But it doesn't extend to all CC apps.

One of the issues is that you need to have the correct version of CC to use roundtripping from Captivate. At this moment the latest version of CC(2015) with the latest version of Captivate has direct roundtripping with:

  • Photoshop: you can import a PSD file and each layer will be converted to a PNG file by Captivate, but you have perfect roundtripping with the Source PSD-file
  • Audition (as Rod points out) for audio assets
  • Illustrator: only for SVG files (new in CP9)

Besides those real roundtripping applications following CC applications have sort of a 'link' with Captivate:

  • Edge Animate: importing an OAM file is directly supported (responsivity and transparency)
  • Edge Inspect can be used from within Captivate to see the result on different devices without having to publish.
  • Premiere Pro or After Effects can be used to edit a published MP4 file from the Video Demo application that ships with Captivate; I regret personally a lot that it is not possible to edit the raw cpvc file

Another dream is an easier way to embed Cp-published files in InDesign, Muse...
