Effects not working when changing a state

Explorer ,
Jan 16, 2018 Jan 16, 2018

I'm having a problem making some effects (motion path + FadedZoomIn) working on images that are in another element's "state".  When I change the element's state to the one containing the image, there is no effect and the image itself does not appear.

Any ideas?

How did you combine the effects: using the + button in the Timing Properties or by creating one custom effect that combines the three wanted effects? I am exploring a little bit, and it looks like everything works fine when you apply one effect to an item in a state, but not when you combine effects.

It is not possible to have effects for states. You should be able to have effects for items in a state however. When you change the state that effect will appear. How do you trigger the state change?

Actually, it's  quite possible. You can assign different effects to every single 'Sub-Object' in an object's state individually. They're just not affected by the primary object's effect by default.

Guess though, that there's no way to trigger those 'Sub-Object' effects by an action.

My apologies...I left something out.

The effects work when I "preview next 5 slides" or something similar in Captivate.  They fail to work when I preview HTML5 in browser.  My first thought was they were effects that would not work with HTML5, but I'm not getting and error messages when I use the HTML5 Tracker and the effects I chose don't indicate that they aren't HTML5 compatible as previous versions did (I'm using 2017/ver 10).

The state change is triggered by selecting a button.  The buttons are set to change the state of the root object and they idea is that when the state changes one of the objects in that state will move along a motion path while zooming in (0 alpha, x, and y to 100).

Lilybiri...I combine the effects with the "+"....a motion path and FadedZoomIn.

Do you think building a custom effect that combines the two would solve the problem?

I am bit sick, that is why I didn't have the courage to check it out. But it is definitely worth trying, because I did see that when you apply two effects to an object in a state, only one seems to be functional. Sorry, it is just an idea, no guarantee whatsoever.

Sorry to hear you're under the weather...my kiddo is sick today as well.

I think you've hit upon it.  I had one slide that the effects seemed to work fine...the one that I put the motion path on and forgot about the FadedZoomIn.  If I find myself with the time, I'll try and combine the two into a custom effect and see what happens.

As always...thanks much for the help!

Jay
