Errors in software simulation occur when pasting recording into larger scale program

I'm producing a 1024 X 768 training program on new software for a customer. But to maintain the format the customer gave me in their slides, I'm capturing software simulation recordings at 870 X 630. When I copy those recorded slides into the rest of the 1024 X 768 program, the backgrounds fit exactly into the format space, but all interactions are moved somewhere else on the screen. Is there a work around for this?

Thank you so much for pointing me to your blog. I'm not sure what you've posted there applies to my problem. I've captured the software demo in the proper size for the space between the elements of the company's formatted background slides. So the background slide is 1024 X 768. The space for the software demo is 870 X 631. My problem is that elements of the captured demo appear in the wrong place when I paste the recorded demo 870 X 631 demo into the 1024 X 768 slides. So typing in fields that I've captured shows up above and to the left of the field in which the typing takes place. Once the typing is finished, the typed content appears correctly in the field. Similarly, when the demo creator clicks on a button, the button moves up and two the left.

At this point I created a PNG master slide at 1024 X 768 with a blank 870X631 space and applied it to all the slides in the program that had demo content, but the same problem persists.

So, perhaps I don't understand the workflow.

Should I create a wholly new Captivate file with just that new background and paste the demo 870 X 631 content into it?

Or should I be capturing the demo content at 1024 X 768 and following your re-scaling instructions. Any insight you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Jay S.

I should have added that I'm working in Captivate 8.

It is the automatic rescaling that caused you problems, that was the reason I suggested to create a master slide with a 'hole' to insert the software simulation slides in their original resolution. That is how I understood your question. Is it not working? Is the 'blank space' really totally transparent?

Is it totally transparent? In Photoshop, I deleted the white space, clicked the background off, and saved the file as a PNG - a normal process for me. When i imported the image as a Master Slide there was no indication that the blank space was really blank, just white..

I should find time to check it out in Captivate 9, I know I tested it in 7 and it was still functional, but 8 has changed a lot. It is not possible right now, but if I find time, will update this thread. PNG supports transparent pixels.

Thanks again for your insight. I'll keep playing with it. Unfortunately 9 is not an option. The company that's contracted me will work only in 8 for the time being.

If it doesn't work on 9, it probably will not work on 8 neither, because the big UI change occurred in 8.That is not the issue.
