i lost my filmstrip and my classic view
CPVC-files are movies, there are no slides in a movie, just one long timeline. It is totally normal that you don't have a filmstrip, it is a totally different application. Since there are no slides, the filmstrip has no meaning at all.
You are in the editor for the cpvc, where you can pan/zoom, trim to have separate clips, create transitions, change the mouse, add static objects.
You did start a video demo, because in CP6 there is no way to start it from within a cptx-project at all. For what reas

Open the Workspaces dropdown list: do you see Classic there? From the Window menu you can normally open any panel, including Filmstrip: did you try that?

I emailed Kevin Siegal and he says the same thing. its just not available any longer. I clicked on a button on the bottom right. I think it was edit. I was trying to find little tricks on captivate to make what I do better. im on a short deadline and I have really messed myself up.

Just clean the Preferences in that case. I think even Captivate 6 has the CleanPreferences files in the subfolder Utils of the Captivate installation folder. Run it while Captivate is closed. Everything will be reset to defaults when you reopen Captivate and you'll have the workspaces back.
However, your last sentence '....a button on the bottom right, ...edit' is ringing a bell. Are you sure you are not in the Video Demo editor (creates cpvc-file) instead of in a normal cptx-project?
Maybe you have to post a screenshot... or phone to Kevin

This has no sense now, based on your last answer. You are just in the wrong application (video editor, not normal Captivate workspace), no need to clean Preferences.
What I showed is the folder 'utils' under the installation folder where you can file those files to run for Mac or for Windows.
