I have created a project (not responsive) and would like to use three pictures and flip them to view text. If I make the picture a button, when I try to preview the slide, Captivate reports 'Slides or objects are not supported in SWF and the project will be published without the unsupported items.'

I tried to import Flip Cards Captivate Asset slide into my project but I am unable to swap the existing pictures with mine, or change the size of what looks a placeholder.
Please can anyone suggest a relatively simple way to achieve this.

I used one of the flip card slides from the Assets in a presentation at the Adobe elearning Wordl conference in June (Deep dive into Captivate: Advanced and Shared actions). Recording is still available.

You may not need to watch the explanation why I edited the advanced actions, nor why I preferred a conversion to shared actions. But you'll see how the original actions as well.

The Flipcards are multistate objects. Image is used as a button (Normal state), it has a Custom state which has the text. The action triggered by the image used as button is 'Go to Next State'. You can take out the Rollover and Down states from the button. Some flip card slides will disable the button after it has been flipped, not the best solution, hence my presentation where I edited the action. If you use Go to Next State without disabling, clicking the button again, will get the image back. It becomes a 'toggle'.

How to replace images, find them and how detect interactions, you can have a look at two blogs I specifically createed for those Assets slides:
