Full motion slide wrong size in HTML5

Community Beginner ,
Aug 17, 2017 Aug 17, 2017

Hi,

we publish our Captivate projects in HTML5. When recording a software demo some actions ,e.g. Drag n' Drop, get transformed into full motion slides.

These slides, when displayed in the browser / project get resized in their width (smaller), producing black bars left / right on the screen.

Any idea on how to avoid this?

Greetings, David

Replace the old FMR slided (flash-based) by cpvc slides (result in mp4).

Lot more work, wished they improved the work flow. Also:. try to avoid the need for such  motion slides, they often have an alternative work flow.

Example: click on the scrollbar instead of dragging it.

You can capture a CPVC-slide within a Captivate project.

I just did see that you marked an answer about D&D functionality lacking in CP8, which was the case but only for the first release of 8. It was almost immediately added with a patch (to 8.0.1). Be careful with older threads.

Hi, thanks for the info. But how would I create these cpvc slides?

The easiest way is to do it in the recording work flow:

  • Stop the recording when you expect a motion slide to appear
  • Use the Slides button, Video Demo slide to start a Video Demo Slide
  • When motion is done, stop the video demo (you could edit it, but is also possible later on)
  • Use the Slides button, Software simulation to continue the normal sim

Thx, just tried this. Works quite well.

Only thing, which is a little bit annoying: In the video demo part the screen is "moved downwards" by approx. 1px. So it looks kind of strange when getting into and out of that slide. hmmm...

Which version do you use? I didn't use this work flow yet on CP2017.  That looks strange, 1px? How did you test: after publishing on a webserver? HTML5 output is not always correct in Preview methods at all. It need to be published and uploaded.

OK, here is what produces the 1px shift:

We have a template which consists of two parts.

One for recording demos and the main template with a navigation bar on the bottom.

After recording we have to rescale the first project and place all elements on the top center to make space for the navigation bar.

Then the slides are copied to the main template project.

This replacement somehow leads to the video demo being 1px further down than the rest of the slides.

At the moment I have no idea how to fix or avoid this.

I would like to warn you, because since CP9 (and maybe 8) using templates (if you mean indeed use of cptl files) causes a lot of problems (from what I learned on this forum). If you use that 'template' for design consistency, I strongly recommend to replace it by a custom theme! Have a look at this article:

What's in a Theme - a Template? - Captivate blog

Of course I'm not sure but it is possible that your problem with shifting of the copied slides is due to the same reason about cptl files being tricky.
