How do I sync a group of texts and buttons to the play button/audio file not the slide timeline?

Hi!!

I have 4 items:

  1. A play button
  2. A group of various texts and buttons
  3. An audio clip that starts when the play button is selected
  4. A slide

The user is on a slide and the clock begins.

Each user is different in the amount of time it takes to select the play button.

When the play button is selected, an audio clip begins.

I want a group of various texts and buttons to appear after the audio clip is finished.

The group needs to be synced with the play button/audio not the slide.

How do I do this?

The two statements below are true.

If the Group is supposed to appear after 15 seconds and the user waited 20 seconds to select play, the  Group will automatically appear. (not 15 seconds after the selections of play)

If the  Group is supposed to appear after 15 seconds  and the user waited 12 seconds to select play, the Group will appear after 15 seconds.

If the play button has a pause (can be very early on the slide), and it plays the Audio clip with a simple action 'Play Audio' it will be sufficient to put your group of text captions just at that pausing point. When the action is executed, the playhead will be released at the same time and the group will become visible. You can even stagger the objects in the group. Isn't this what you want to achieve?

Alternative would be to put the group on a second slide, including the audio that could be slide audio, and assign the action 'Go to Next Slide' to the Play button.

Maybe I misunderstand your question, but what I explain is just using the timeline which belongs to the basics of the Captivate design.

Hi Lilybiri,

Are you saying that I can create a "pause point" in my audio and load an action in that "pause point" to have my group of texts and buttons come up? (Automatically)

I'm creating a listening scenario where the user will select the play button to hear a situation. When the audio clip ends I want the question and choices (text and buttons) to appear. I would insert the pause point a second before the audio is done.

It's more for aesthetics and not distracting the learner while they're learning.

How do I create this "pause point"?

Not in the audio, you didn't tell that there is another audio clip in your original question. Can you please describe exactly what you want? Your second question is totally different, I don't understand what you want. Any interactive object, a button, a click box, a shape button and a Text Entry box can have a pause. Maybe someone else understands better what you want.

I understood:

  • You have a slide
  • That slide has a Play button
  • When that button is clicked an Audio clip is started
  • At the same time that the Audio clip plays you want to see a group with text captions appear.

In that question I don't see anything about pausing another Audio?

If the group has to appear after the audio clip, you can put the audio on the slide and time the group later. But that would be much easier with a new slide.

Do you understand the slide work flow, and pausing in Captivate?
