How to change preferences for duration of smartshapes? (Voreinstellung Anzeige)

Hallo,

ich habe in den Voreinstellungen (Preferences) die Anzeige für Smartshapes von 3 sec auf "restliche Folie" gestellt. Leider ändert sich dadurch nichts: Wenn ich Smartshapes neu einfüge, werden sie nur für 3 sec angezeigt.

Guten Abend, but I will continue in English.

I always change that duration for Shapes immediately after installing Captivate, as global Preference. Global means before opening any project. Here is a screenshot (since I don't know the terminology used in German).

Know that this will only be applied to newly inserted shapes. That is the reason why I am setting it up when in the Welcome screen, before starting any project.

If you want to change the duration for existing shapes in a project, do it for one shape and use the hanburger menu to apply it to the rest of the shapes in the project.

I read that it is not working for you even for a new shape, which is weird. Which exact version of Captivate do you use? Full number can be found under Help, About Captivate. Are you on Mac or Windows? When you reopen the Preferences do you see confirmation of the timing of the shapes? Can you try to export the preferences, import them in a new project and test the timing of a newly inserted shape? That is not necessary if you did it in the Global Preferences of course.

Richtig, das Problem sind neu eingefügte Smartshapes (egal ob im aktiven Projekt oder in einem neu erstellten).

Did you check the Preferences and did it keep the Timing for shapes?

Use the menu File, Export, Preferences (hope it is similar in German). In the same menu you also find Import, Preferences.

I start to suspect corruption in Captivate, which could need to clean the Preferences. Sorry, sound rather confusing. I will wait for your answer.

Programm schließen, wieder öffnen und die Voreinstellungen danach nochmal kontrollieren hatte ich bereits, ja.

Voreinstellungen exportieren und importieren hat funktioniert - aber das Timing bleibt bei 3 sec, wenn ich Smartshapes einfüge.

I am using exactly the same version as you do on a Win system.

I would try now to clean the Preferences. You will lose all changes, including this timing change, but I have a feeling that Captivate is bit corrupted and this could help:

• Close Captivate
• Find the subfolder 'utils' under the installation folder and run the file 'CleanPreferencesWin.bat'.
• Restart Captivate. Now try to edit the Preferences before opening a project, change the Timing for smart shapes as you did before.
• Start a new project and insert a slide which is longer than 3 seconds, insert a smart shape and it should now have timing for rest of the slide.

Aber ich kann das gespeicherte Design dann wieder ins Projekt importieren, oder? Kann ich am vorliegenden Projekt damit weiterarbeiten?

Object styles are not part of the Preferences (Voreinstellungen) but of the used Theme. Themes are not touched by cleaning the Preferences. Now I start getting confused by the terminology. What do you mean by 'gespeicherte Design'? To me Design is what is contained in the Theme which you are using. I hope you saved possible changes to the design in a custom theme?

Danke! Im neuen Projekt sind die Smartshapes nun mit dem Timing auf "restliche Folie" - bis auf die Linien, die sind weiterhin bei 3 sec. Linien sind wohl spezielle Smartshapes? Dafür würde auch sprechen, dass die Farbe der Linien nicht die ist, die ich für Smartshapes im Objektstil-Manager eingestellt habe (Füllung und Kontur sind zwar auf 0, aber die dafür ausgewählte Farbe ist nicht die der Linie).

The Line shape has always been a troublemaker, years ago one of the engineers has explained me the reason (it is a programming bug) but I didn't know about this problem with timing. I have learned to avoid that line shape whenever possible and replace it by a rectangle with one very small height. Sorry that I didn't catch that particular problem before. If I have some time tomorrow I will explore the color issue as well. For sure I would create another object style for those line shapes.

Das ist interessant, danke für den Hinweis! Dann suche ich nicht weiter nach der Ursache. Ich verwende die Linien gerne als Pfeile, deshalb eignet sich ein Rechteck nicht als Ersatz. Aber dann muss ich eben die Linien per copy/paste einfügen, das geht ja auch - anders wäre es praktischer, aber wenn ich das so mache, ist auch die Farbe kein Problem.

There are arrow shapes and you can convert them to free shapes which would allow you to move the points and create the arrow you really want. You can save such a custom shape as well.
