I have configured a YouTube widget to play content in my project. However, when I put the URL for the video in the widget and 'Test' it, the browser gives a '404 not found' error and the URL in the browser bar is something different to the URL I require (it is http://www.youtube.com/v/ttps://yout). It appears to prepend th URL with www.youtube.com/... but also the remianing address is different to what I have requested.
My video is an unlisted video at Session 01 Purlin Design Man Journey - YouTube
Can anybody let me know what I am doing wrong?? It seems like it should be so straightforward!!

Hi,
May I know which browser you are using? Also can you check in your video settings if you have disabled access to your video from other sites? Please share the URL which you use in the URL field
Thanks,
Mohana

Hi Mohana,
I am using IE11. However, to me it seems like a fault in the Captivate Youtube widget, as the wrong URL appears to be provided to the browser.
If I open the video by using the URL dirctly in IE11 it works fine....
I have not specifically disabled access to the video. It does not seem like it is looking up the URL and getting a message that it cannot open. It seems like it cannot find the site to open it.
Thanks,
Peter

Hi Peter,
This is the URL for your video which I am feeding into the widget: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KydZTLyPWcE&feature=youtu.be
When I 'test' it using this, the video loads fine in the browser. Can you please try this on your end?

Hi Mohana,
Yes, this URL does work correctly! Thank you!
My question then is, the URL that Youtube provides me is: Session 01 Purlin Design Man Journey - YouTube
Why is the URL you provided configured a bit differently and how do I know how then to configure it?

Hi Rohana,
And note as per what I mentioned in my first post, it sems like the widget actually changes the URL when you hit the 'Test' button, because the URL that appears in the browser address bar is a bit different looking to what I hav put inot the URL input box.

Hi Peter,
I simply used the URL which you have provided in your post, I did not configure it or change it in any way.

Hi Mohana,
This is very wierd. If I put the URL I provided to you (which was the one provided by YouTube of Session 01 Purlin Design Man Journey - YouTube) into the widget, when I hit the 'Test' button I get a window coming up with the '404 not found' error. The URL used by that window is http://www.youtube.com/v/ttp://youtu.
So, as you can see, the widget appears to adjust the URL. I presume when yiou do it, the widget adjusts it to the URL you provided me, which does work well. I do not know why the widget adjusts my URL incorrectly. Maybe a bug in the widget that is responding to my particular setup?

Peter

Thanks for providing the details Peter. It is true that I am unable to reproduce your issue at my end. Can you confirm if you are using the latest widget?
You can do this by navigating to "C:\Users\Public\Documents\Adobe\eLearning Assets\". Close Captivate,. delete the folder titled "Interactions_9_0". Now launch Captivate again while making sure you are connected to the internet, and try the same scenario again.
If this does not work, you can send across the sample project containing the widget you have been using. You can upload it to a shared location(eg Dropbox) and send the link to mdas@adobe.com
Thanks,
Mohana

Mohana,
I did what you suggested and deleted the "Interactions_9_0" folder. When I fired up the project, created a new page and added the YouTube widget, I had the same problem. When I hit 'Test Button' it opens up a page that is searching for the incorrect URL as per my previous comments.
I will send you the project by email. It is only a small test project with the single slide with the YouTube widget on it. After I found I was having problems in my main project, I decided to investigate these using this smaller test project.

Peter

Hi Mohana,
I sent you the test project by email previously, but have not heard anything back from you.
Can I get some feedback on this problem please?

Hi Peter,
It may be possible that Outlook is filtering emails with attachments due to security reasons. It would be better if you could upload it somewhere and instead email the link.
Thanks,
Mohana

Received the file! I had asked you to send it because I was suspecting your widget might have been an older version. But it looks like the URL you are using is the one which is created when you "Share" the Youtube video. This seems to be why you're facing these issues.
If you hover over the Question icon next to the Video URL field of the Youtube widget, you will see a sample URL provided - the URL you use must be similar to the example URL you see on hover.
Instead of using the link provided by Youtube "Share" can you copy and paste the URL in the address bar of your browser and see if that works?

Mohana

Thanks Mohana,
This works fine! I guess my thought to us the link provided by YouTube, which seemed sensible, was not the right way!
One more question, in case you know the answer: When I open the video from the presentation created by Captivate, the youtube video window has an icon down the bottom to allow the user to open it in youtube. The projects I am planning are commercial and we do not want users to be able to find and copy the youtube URL and be able to view the videos independently or pass on to others.
I have already mad the video 'unlisted' in youtube, which means people cannot search for the address etc in youtube.
Do you know a way of not showing this icon at the bottom of the youtube window?

Peter

Hi Peter,
Whatever you see in the widget container is what Youtube sends to it. So I'm not sure I can help you with the icon
Thanks,
Mohana
