How to setup a menu with advanced actions on the master slide for use throughout the project?

I have a smart shape on a master slide and upon clicking I would like a text caption to show. On a regular slide I have set this up with advanced actions but want this menu visible throughout the project. When I select the smart shape or the text caption in the master slide view I cannot see a name for it and therefore cannot assign it to a line in the advanced actions menu.

None of the objects on master slides has an ID (gave up asking this as a feature request, there must be an important reason). For those objects that you need to control by an action, put them on first slide and time them for the rest of the project. You can combine master slide objects with objects timed that way for your menu. In this article I gave an example of such a combination for a toggle button, look at scenario 3
