I bought Captivate 8 student/teacher edition only 1 month ago...

I bought Captivate 8 student/teacher edition only 1 month ago, and now Captivate 9 has been released. Is there option for teachers to upgrade other than having to buy the new version outright again? Particularly seeing I only bought it a month ago and no one advised that there would be a new release so soon.

Hi Adso, see this page - if you purchased direct from Adobe within the past 30 days, then you may be able to get the new version instead:

Do I qualify for a free upgrade?

Great! Thank you very much. I have followed through and made a request. I am bang on the threshold so fingers crossed.

Sure, glad to help!

Adobe's Return/Refund Policy for perpetual products is 30 days, and you may want to initiate one of those as well (just in case) - so that one way or the other, you can hopefully effect a product exchange.

Good luck with it and please let us know how things turn out.

I'll certainly have a go.

Having spoken via chat to Adobe, the policy is 30 days, and I am unfortunately on 31 days.

Their initial response was 'unfortunately, we can't', however, I have asked to escalate my case for consideration, which they have done and have said they will come back with a response this afternoon. Once again fingers crossed.

Can't be angry if they don't, as it is a clear policy. Frustrating though that I missed it. I have been bound to them since CS2 and played by the rules by purchasing and registering every CS version along the way, also jumping into CC on the first day it was available. History is all in my profile, so hopefully it might mean something.

I'll let you know how I go.

I'd be VERY angry. In fact, I'd be very, VERY angry! I can't imagine why you aren't, though I'm hot-headed, and have a temper. So -- I wish you well, Adso!

Thanks for the update.  Well, like you said, it's a clear policy.  Hope they might be able to grant an exception, but not sure how often (or if) that even/ever happens.

Either way, it's just one of those things - the timeline was unknowable and you did all that you could.

You may want to ask them to clarify if the 30 days is triggered by purchase, installation, or registration.

In my experience, those seldom happen all on the same day!

Most of this software comes with a 30 day trial, so there is some possiblity that your regular use started a bit later. If you can show them that there were issues and delays with getting the software installed, licensed and registered, they may be more willing to consider an exception.
