In demo mode with add text captions selected, text captions are not automatically adding on mouse clicks. Why is this happening?

Can you show Preferences, Modes, Demonstration? Are you sure you captured the software simulation in Demonstration mode?

Thank you for your reply.
Additional info: As I click on different items during recording I do not hear the camera snapshot sound, and Mouse trails are not showing in the editing window. Also if a dialog box takes a while to open normally Captivate will compress that time so that a 30 wait will only last 3 seconds to open.
And the whole recording session instead of creating multiple slides it create one whole slide for the entire recording of the steps. The version of Captivate 7 is 7.0.1.237 on Windows 7 64 bit.
Here are the settings.

I see what happened: you did not create a normal software simulation ibn Demonstration mode, but a video demo. That results in a pure video, with an extension cpvc, and can only publish to mp4. If you want the classic simulation 'cptx format) you need to choose either Automatic or Manual, then choose the mode(s) that you want to capture.

Thank you.
I tried Automatic in training mode and custom.
see below:
Using the same setting outlined on previous screen shots.
and no text captions showed except for one. The recording is not recording from the beginning. But I do get mouse trails.
This is basically what I want to do. Record a simulation with text captions on items I click on. Later I want to add some narration. Since the last software update the software has not been operating the same as it did. I am wondering if I have to reinstall the software.

Hi there
Whether text captions are created or not is dependent on Captivate understanding what you clicked. You might try opening perhaps Windows Notepad and record clicking some menu items. If no captions are produced, it means that either the setting is turned off or that something is amiss with Captivate.
But if Notepad records just fine, it means that Captivate simply cannot understand what is going on.
Note that even if Captivate doesn't understand and add captions for you, you are free to add as many (or as few) as you like to that recording once it's complete.
Cheers... Rick

Thank you for responding. I used your suggestion of using Notepad and got the same results. I used the setting below
I am starting to think I may have to reinstall.

You are inserting simulation slides in an existing project right? On the previous screenshots you showed me the setup for a Demonstration mode, now you captured Training mode which has a lot less text captions added than Demonstration mode: only Hint and Failure captions are added for Click boxes and eventually Text Entry Boxes, if you kept the default settings.

I was jus trying different setups. Basically if I have this setup
I should be able to record all mouse clicks with text captions right?
What is really happening is I did a recording with the setting above using just notepad clicking on menu items.
The recording only captured no mouse clicks and got no text captions. If my setting were correct then I am thinking something is wrong with the software.

Please, start a new softwre simulation. Now you show an Assessment, which has even less text captions, only Failure captions. You are always inserting more software sim slides in an existing project. Start a totally new project, only Demonstration mode to check. I'm still not sure you did capture in that mode.

Thanks for replying so quickly, the screen shot I sent you says the mode is in demonstration.
Here is the process I follow when recording.
I click on the record button, choose after what slide to start the recording.
Then I select Manual- 1st screen shot
I click on settings
Then settings again - see 2nd screen shot
Then choose the options on the 3rd screen shot which shows "Demonstration"

Please: instead of recording in an existing project as you have been doing, will you capture a totally new project, not in an existing project. Then you'll be able to choose even 3 or 4 modes at the same time. Do use Automatic capture, not manual.

Ok I restarted the software and selected Simulation on the opening screen
Then choose the following options:
I basically recorded clicking on all the menu items: file Edit, Format, View, and Help
So the recording should have showed the drop down menus appearing.
Unfortunately I got 6 slides with no menu action dropping down and no text captions.
Do you think I am doing something wrong or is the software not operating correctly?

Choose Demonstration, Training and Assessment, not Custim. Repeating again:
only in Demonstration you have those text captions that you want.

Ok in keeping all setting the same with the exception of choosing Demo, Assessment, and Training and not Custom, I was able to capture the menus dropping down but no text captions. I was in demonstration mode in the settings section.
