Linking buttons across projects

New Here ,

I need to click a button in a Captivate assessment that says “Show Me” and have it open a demonstration module.  Right now the demonstration module is in another project.  Can the “Show Me” button be linked to the other project?  Or, is there another way of doing this, if at all?  Thanks,

Ideally you will have captured the demonstration slides at the same size as your main project and you can just copy them to that project so that clicking the button would jump users to the first slide in that demo.  That's the best way to do this.  Inserting a demo SWF inside another SWF is NOT a good idea.  If you intend delivering this content from an LMS then jumping this way from one module to another module is not something you will be able to do.

Rod, I appreciate your prompt reply. The demo slides are captured in main project. But the Show Me button will be on different screens showing different slides when clicked. I know how to assign the “jump to”. But, how do you assign it to jump to and play slides 1,2, and 3 of the demo slides when press button on one assessment page and have the Show Me button on the another page jump to and play slides 4, 5, 6 of the demo slides. Any ideas? Thanks,

If you are talking about a normal button, you need a different instance of that button on each slide anyway. That means you can assign a different 'Jump to action' to each of those buttons. Maybe I don't understand your problem correctly? The issue will be to have the Return button configured correctly on the last slide after jumping (demo_3 after first jump, demo_6 after second jump).

If you are using Captivate 7 or 8, I could recommend using a shared action for the Show Me buttons: the slide label or number can be a parameter. Same for the Return buttons. Since you want to play more than one slide in sequence after a jump, you cannot use the option to go to the last visited slide.

Practical tip: take a pencil and paper and draw all the links (jumps) you need.
