How do I lock an asset in the new Captivate, so I don't accidentally move it around? I don't see the usual lock or view icons on the new timeline. Would I have to go edit the timeline toolbar or something? I tried searching "Help" to no avail. Any insight is greatly appreciated, thanks!🙏🏽
Timeline has been deprecated a lot, and has also several bugs.
However as long as this version is limited to responsive projects and the use of slide templates and blocks, there is no way you could move anything accidentally.

Now, bc of the blocks, is there no way to overlap different svg files? I have an svg file that I want to use as a background. I can't add the interactvie elements over it bc of the blocks. Would I be able to accomplish this if I make the background a png file? If so, can I also add other png elements over it, as well? I also have svg files that I want to use as buttons and such. Am I not able to do that? I remember being able to do that in Captivate Classic, I think. Now, I'm not so sure. Thanks for any input you can offer me!

This is a completely different question than the original one. For the sake of other users it would better be in a different thread.
That problem is linked with the fact that the present version 12 only creates responsive projects. The biggest limitation in such projects (also in Fluid Boxes workflow in older versions) is that you can never stack items in the same location, no overlap is allowed.
I had hoped that, due to the responsiveness, SVGs would become more important in this version. The good news is that you can fill a slide with a SVG image as background, which was not possible in older versions. That is a workaround if you want to stack another image on top of that background. BUT! the only way to insert a SVG is to use the SVG media block which is limited to a maximum of 4 SVGs in a linear alignment (horizontal except for phone where it is vertical). Those SVGs cannot overlap (see start of my answer) which was possible in previous versions, which made the use as button very interesting. See this example:
Your last question: you can still use the SVG as button, just add an interaction to it. You have access to the states as well.

You're a brilliant human being and officially the foremost expert in Adobe Captivate! Literally no one else, not the guides, nor ChatGPT, nor YT helped me as much as you!

Do not exaggerate.... I have even been banned from Training Magazine and not allowed to present at conferences anymore. There must be a lot better experts around, or - as happened often in my professional life - some don't like a woman to know bit more.
BTW, the ChatGPT used by Edge sometimes uses my blog post as resource. YT has a lot of crap, since no one is curating. The Help has always been subpar, was the reason I started my blog in 2008.

Trust me, I'm not exaggerating! I'm a grown man that was on the verge of tears cos I couldn't figure this out and couldn't get clarification from anywhere or anyone, but you. Thanks for being so active in this forum, and keep doing the work you do. I strive to one day be as knowledgeable as you on how to use Captivate to its full potential. I decided to revert back to Captivate Classic and it's worked out pretty well. Thanks again! Good luck and ignore the haters! You're awesome!
