New Software Simulation

Explorer ,
May 01, 2017 May 01, 2017

hi all,

I am using Adobe Captivate 9. I newly installed this software in my new laptop.   I encountered a warning message when I create a new the Software Simulation.

I encountered this message.  How do i resolve this?

On the other hand, if I create a blank project from scratch, and then add software simulation just like the screenshot below, I don't encounter any error.

Thank you in advance.

You are using a retina screen. CP9 is the first version to allow you to use such a screen. However to create a software simulation or a video demo, you need to replace one line in the AdobeCaptivate.ini file, the line mentioned in that dialog box. This means that you need to have access to the installation folder of Captivate (administrator rights), but anyhow you need to Run as Administrator for capturing anyway. My work flow was (no longer needed in CP2017 as you can read here: Captivate 2017's gems - Captivate blog 😞

  • Find the file AdobeCaptivate.ini in the installation folder (CP has to be closed)
  • Make a copy of that folder to another location
  • Open the ini file with a text processor that will not format, I'm using Notepad
  • Change the line with DPIAwareness as instructed
  • Save that file to its location
  • Rename the original file in the installation folder by adding, I use AdobeCaptivate_run.ini
  • Copy the changed file to the installation folder.

You will now be able to record either a software simulation or a video demo.

When you have finished you will have to switch the ini files again to be able to open the CP application. Keep the changed file but with another name, AdobeCaptivate_rec.in, put the original file in place (with the normal name AdobeCaptivate.ini).

Cumbersome, that is the reason I was pleased to see it is no longer necessary in CP2017 although sometimes you will want to change the display percentage before capturing.
