Newbie Question: I'm looking for a way to create an on-line course with a lot of interactive content. Does an online course created with Captivate require that the students have Flash installed on their computers?

No, if you publish to HTML5 whihc is highlty recommended since Flash Player (Flash is an application, now named Animate) will disappear in the near future.

However if you need reporting and managing student accounts you'll need a LMS.
