No display without skin editor

I have a button on my slides for moving the project forward.

But when I preview, noting shows up at all in Publish if I don't use the skin editor also.

Why won't the project show up without a skin?

Can you show some screenshots? I never use a skin. Are the buttons on

master slide or slide?
