Not able to publish my project to Wordpress

New Here ,
Apr 30, 2017 Apr 30, 2017

Hi,

I have been unable to publish any of my projects onto my website.

I have a Wordpress site. I have created a Captivate 9 project. I have saved the project to my computer first. I then tried to upload the file, both zipped and unzipped into my media files.

The error message stated that these files could not be uploaded for security reasons.

I can find no clear information from Adobe on this. It clearly is a lot harder for the general user.

I would really appreciate any help.

Thanks

Hi Andrew,

You can't natively play Captivate modules or (Storyline for that matter) on Wordpress site, or at least not easily. There are some open source and pay versions of plugins that will let you do it. (just do a search in plugins) Another option is to load it onto another website root and link it via the index page.

Cheers

Steve

Thanks Steve,

I have installed a plug in but it still doesn't work. Pretty exasperated to be honest

Hi Andrew

This is the one I had working on my site a year ago "Insert or Embed Adobe Captivate Content into WordPress — WordPress Plugins

The author charges a tonne for the paid version, but if you only have one course at a time its free. Try it and see if if works. You should be able to upload the zip file and it will create a page with the course on it.

Also make sure your hosting company allows file uploads that are big enough to handle your course zip.

Cheers

Steve

Thanks again Steve,

Yes, that is exactly the one that I'm using but it just hangs, without actually loading the file. The zip file is only 2.9 mb. Its just a test file actually. I seem to be jinxed

Hmm... maybe mine hangs now too, Maybe its abandoned and isn't supported by the current Wordpress version. As a last resort check to see if your WP version is the most current.

Another way to get it on your site would be to upload it to a web browser, or Amazon3 web servers and link the index.html via a I-Frame in a new wordpress page. Theoretically it should work.

Cheers
Steve

What kind of error are you seeing?  How are you trying to start the course?

Using the eLearning Plugin I don't get a error message, just the flashing bars suggesting it won't up-load the file. I tried several times and waited for long periods of time. I was uploading a demo file to test if the publishing worked. The zip file was only 2.9 MB

Thanks for your help

If you are uploading a published Captivate project as a zip file to your Wordpress server, do you also have a way to unzip it once it's on the server?  Otherwise you won't be able to link to any HTM or HTML file inside the zip archive in order to play the content.

When you upload a SCORM as a zip file to a true Learning Management Server, it always has a way to unzip the file on the server so that you (or the LMS) can link to the file that launches the content.

it sounds like your question is slipping away from a captivate question into a web server / wordpress / PHP  question.   when things get to that point, I typically have to root around on the server and the debug panel on the browser to find the breakdown.  too many points where things may be broken.

as a general strategy,  if you have the ability to bypass wordpress and simply upload the zip file onto the server,  you solve one of the places where breakdowns occur.  after that,  it really becomes a system problem.

Hi Andrew,

I checked with Captivate 2017 and it appears to work fine for me and I note there has been a sale/price reduction for plug-in which is always helpful. Not sure what your technical issue is, sorry I couldn't be more helpful! You may want to try sdwarwick's

advice.

Cheers,
Steve

Hii Andrew,

I'm pretty sure you got a solution for your problem, so i'm replying this answer for other peoples in the community.

If you're looking best way to publish your course on WordPress website. Simply follow the steps:

1. Download GrassBlade xAPI Companion WordPress plugin.

2. Install and Activate

3. Click on xAPI Content Option in WordPress Dashboard.

4. Click Add New option and Scroll Down

5. Now Select File and Click Update button.

It will upload your exported .zip file and publish it.

You can choose to show this course on the same page, or you can use shortcode to show it on any other also.

If you have big file you can connect your Dropbox account with this plugin and import your file from dropbox directly.

Note: If you're enabling tracking feature, you should connect this plugin with Learning Record Store (LRS) first. If you still want to upload it disable xAPI tracking first and export your file again. Now upload.
