Not marking as complete / bookmarking issues using Moodle as LMS

We currently have Moodle 3.9 as our LMS. We had a issue where our Captivate courses were not bookmarking and were advised to publish using SCORM 2004 4th Edition (were using 1.2) which has resolved the bookmarking issue but we are now having an intermittent issue where courses are not completing (can't find a pattern for those that aren't completing). I have included a table of the settings we are using in Captivate. Has anyone else experienced this with Moodle? There does not seem to be this issue when using SCORM capable software other than Captivate.

Thanks in advance.

The option which worries me most, because it can cause issues with many LMSs is the 'Required field'. Please reset it to the default option 'Optional'. There are other ways to force the learner to take the quiz, which do not cause problems.

BTW the default SCORM template sends data on each slide. I never understood why there is another similar option under Advanced. You could try to change the template to the one sending data at the end.

Do you have at least one slide after the Results slide? What are the Quiz Settings and Pass/Fail under Preferences? Did you delete any object on the Results slide?

Thank you for your response Lilybiri, there are so many variables and I admit the ‘Required field’ is not one that I fully understand the consequences of. We have some courses that are a true quiz with a quiz results slide (always with slides after) but we also have courses where a button is ‘included in quiz’ (no actual quiz in course) and clicking on this button should trigger completion. We manage around 30 courses that have all been developed differently based on business requirements and subject matter, therefore the quiz settings and pass/fail preferences will not be the same across all courses. Moodle is a new platform for us with a new vendor and they don’t have experience with Captivate settings. While the courses worked in our previous LMS we are working through what the settings should be for the courses to continue to function as expected. I have found that SCORM 1.2 works for completion but had issues with bookmarking. With further testing I have found that if I include a Table of Contents, bookmarking appears to work by returning the learner to the beginning of the relevant module.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond. We are not sure we are going to find a one size fits all answer to this problem but we will continue testing.

How did you verify that Moodle supports SCORM 2004?

According to this link on the Moodle website it does NOT support that version of SCORM unless you have a special plugin.

Thank you for your response RodWard, we are aware that Moodle does not support SCORM 2004 however our vendor has been persistent in informing us that 2004 is the correct publish option. We are pursuing further testing with 1.2 but do find bookmarking to be less reliable. Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

Bookmarking was indeed one of the weaknesses of SCORM 1.2, mainly because the creators of the standard did not expect SCORM modules to be very large and therefore only allocated a small amount of memory for Resume Data Bookmarking.  SCORM 2004 rectified that issue by allowing for megabytes of Resume Data.

So, if the bookmarking in your SCORM 1.2 course is not reliable,  the usual reason for that is that the course module is too large or has too many quiz questions and that is overloading the amount that SCORM 1.2 can handle.

Your options are to either reduce the amount of information being sent to resume data (by changing some of the Quiz settings inside Captivate) or move to SCORM 2004, in an LMS that supports it.
