Community Beginner ,

I'm trying to create an effect where when pressing a button, the screen will automatically pan and zoom to a speific area of the screen on a still image. Is this possible?

No, that wasn't really what I was looking for. Ideally, I want something like the pan and zoom effect that is an option in a video; but with a still image.

There is no such feature out of the box. But with advanced actions and/or JS you should be able to achieve such an effect.

Okay, thank you! Do you have any guidance as to how that can be done?

There is no one click solution for zooming still images.

Below is the basic idea of what I have done when zooming a still image is needed.

  • Make a high quality capture of the "zoom area" at maximum size.
  • Have a new slide with the unzoomed area.
  • Have a layer covering your capture area that is 50% gray and 50% transparent (adjust as needed).
  • Have the gray transparent area (under the zoom capture image) become visible right before the zoom.
  • Place the zoom area capture on the slide and scale it down so it fits on the unzoomed capture.
    • Adjust the zoom area capture on the timeline be visible if needed.
  • Then go under Timing and use either Scale or Scale To (depending on the effect you are looking for) and Motion Path / CustomLines to move the zoom effect into the position you want.
